Help understanding what treatment is needed for the following test results:iron, total 166 normal, iron binding capacity, 231, low %saturation 72, high ferritin, 22, normal transferrin, 173, low?

No treatment: More information is needed. For example, are you anemic? If you are not anemic, a normal iron, and normal transferrin without an elevated TIBC does not indicate iron deficiency. If you are anemic, then these tests need to be repeated to look for other causes of your anemia. ...Read more

What is the use of low level laser therapy?

What is the use of low level laser therapy?

Many things: In the dental field we use a low level laser on a tooth that is cold sensitive and many times the sensitivity disappears. It will help cold sores and canker sores heal quicker. We use it before using an erbium yag hard tissue laser for removing decay many times without an anesthetic. Used after any surgery, the area heals quicker. There are many medical conditions (100+) where they can be used. ...Read more

Low level laser therapy for hair loss mpb? What range do they use in this treatment? Will a 660 nw diode comb work for this? Red laser. How effective?

While I know that excimer lasers are used for psoriasis, are low level laser treatments done outpatient for hair loss effective for psoriasis?

Uncertain: Laser dermatologists would be able to answer this question better. Low level laser therapy does not seem to do much in other fields despite the claims. We tried it in rheumatology and did not find much benefit for rheumatoid arthritis. ...Read more

Pt is prescribed testosterone pellets for low t, uses as directed, and tests at 3.77:1 test-epi. Anything unlikely/fishy there re:athletic doping?

Pt is prescribed testosterone pellets for low t, uses as directed, and tests at 3.77:1 test-epi. Anything unlikely/fishy there re:athletic doping?

Probably not . . .: Check out http://www.Webmd.Com/fitness-exercise/features/steroid-doping-questions-answers. Wada considers 4:1 as maximum to be normal so 3.77:1 is normal whereas 11:1 as in article would be consistent w/using performance enhancing drug eg anabolic steroid. However, that doesn't make t pellet legal for competition, just that someone got lucky at that test. ...Read more

Tx is bi-weekly with fu5 + avastin (bevacizumab). Cea is reliable, tested at start of tx. Cea drops significantly with neulasta/neopogen tx following chemo. Why?

Unclear question: Cea dropping is due to chemotherapy. It is a good sign, indicates chemo is working. Neupogen/neulasta are given to increase white cell counts. These are probably unnecessary if you are only taking f-5-fu based chemo. ...Read more

Is there treatment for low testosterone levels in 70yo man?

Is there treatment for low testosterone levels in 70yo man?

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: As long as appropriate screening for latent prostate cancer is performed, then older men can safely take it if they need it. Okay...?: An isolated high value of a test within the described scenario may not be clinically relevant. In fact, high Dht indicates your bio-active form of testosterone is good, so it's logical not to assert much concern on your daily life. Bottom line is still your energy and ability on how to effectively take on personal and occupational life. If still in doubt, ask doc timely with optional Dht retest. ...Read more

Any expert recommendations for prescription low testosterone treatment?

Low Testosterone ,me: There are several brand name testosterone products available. There are injections which do not provide a smooth level of testosterone. Better are the topicals of which there are many. Cheapest is in the form of a cream or gel which can be compiled by your local pharmacy on your doctors prescription. What is the typical dosage range for trt (testosterone replacment therapy)?

Wide range . . .: Don't focus so much on "typical dosage range" but rather on whether you notice benefit w/o side effect. In addition, regular lab testing will insure that you don't have too much such that you increase risk for heart attack & stroke. In other words, T level etc is more important than dose. ...Read more
