Low Level Hcg
Can this happen to someone, have high levels of hCG on one pregnancy, and then low levels of hCG on the next one?
Yes: Hcg levels not only vary between patients but also between pregnancies in the same patient. It can also vary based on the time it was drawn and even on which lab processed the specimen. The important thing is the trend of the rising hormone. A Progesterone level is also helpful in telling the health of the pregnancy. ...Read more

Can pcos cause low levels of hcg? Having regular cycles for years once I started taking metformin. Tracking ovulation with opk's.
It depends: Hcg levels identify a pregnancy. Low levels may represent a very early pregnancy depending on how many days you are late for your expected period. You will have to have more tests to see if it doubles or not. If it decreases you had a chemical pregnancy. Talk with your OB about getting further tests to see if the pregnancy is normal. ...Read more
No: Hcg alone cannot tell one they are going to miscarry. In early pregnancy the HCG should double every 2-3 days. If it is falling, or is not rising substantially over time, it is likely that there is a problem with the pregnancy (impending or current miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy). Once there is a visible pregnancy on ultrasound, hcgs have little value, and the ultrasound is more meaningful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not really: One BHCG level really only confirms you are pregnant. It needs to be compared to subsequent levels and in the context of your clinical situation. How far along are you or should you be? Are you having bleeding and/or cramping etc. All these play into a possible diagnosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pregnancy: Hcg levels correspond to the age of the pregnancy. In early pregnancy levels increase exponentially as the pregnancy progresses. In a normal pregnancy, one expects the levels to increase over time. A biochemical pregnancy is a positive HCG level which does not rise as expected. When all of the trophoblast is gone (complete miscarriage) then the ncg level will return to negative. ...Read more

Low HCG miscarriage: Are you sure it is low HCG and not low progesterone? Sometimes women have low progesterone and need suplementation so the pregnancy can continue i.e is the HCG low because the embryo is not viable? Also did they do analysis of the products of conception? Do you have lupus? anitphosphlid antbodies?, anticardiolipin antibodies? At this point would find a fertility specialist. Was told I miscarried on 5/15 due to low HCG levels. Took a test and it's positive, as well as some symptoms. Can I still be pregnant? No U/S done.
Yes: Beta-hcg levels do vary and there are definitely cases that fall outside the 'norm' as it were and are successful, normal pregnancies. Slow rising betas are associated with poorer pregnancy outcomes, but it isn't a given. Stay in close contact with your doctor and follow directions on testing and ultrasounds and you'll be fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! ...Read more

Can you have low urine hCG levels (lthan 15 or 25) and still be ovulating and having a normal cycle in frequency. Could low hCG cause heavy and long periods? (not above 25 as neg. Urine pregnant tests)
Not for levels.: Don't know of any tests that measure the actual level for home. You can send your blood to labs online, they have kits available to give you a reading of the level of HCG but otherwise any urine pregnancy test essentially uses the same activating reagent so they have the same efficacy. ...Read more

Expected increase : In early pregnancy hcg levels should come close to doubling every 48 hours. The actual level of hcg can vary widely depending on day of implantation, individual etc and therefore the level of hcg is not as helpful as the amount of rise in hcg over time. Unfortunately early pregnancy is a difficult time when there is no test that will tell you for sure if a pregnancy is normal or not. Hang in there ...Read more

Unlikely: With 4 negative pregnancy tests it isn't likely that you are pregnant. The sensitivity of even home pregnancy tests is so good that they will usually pick up even low levels of HCG. Since in a normal pregnancy HCG levels double every 48-72 hr., you could always repeat the test once more in 1 week to be sure or see your doctor for a blood pregnancy test and to explore your symptoms.Hope this helps. ...Read more

Two months late with a negative pregnancy test, is there a chance that i could be pregnant n just have to low of a hCG level to pick up?
Trust the test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctor's office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection. ...Read more
