Needs other sources: Pediasure only contains a small amount or iron. The child must need iron from other sources in the diet. Pediasure only contains 15% of the days requirement for iron. Iron suppements can be used or foods containing more iron should be introduced in to the diet. Meats, fish and green leafy vegetables are good sources of iron. ...Read more

Iron deficient: Your hemoglobin may be low normal, but your iron stores are still depleted and if you do not correct the deficiency you will become anemic, especially of you are losing more than usual amount of blood each month. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form. Practice safe sex. iron binding (tibc). 455. High.
Uibc 430. High.
Iron serum. 25 low.
Iron saturation 5 alert.
TIBC: (tibc)iron deficiency will translate into a high total iron binding capacity( i.E: there is more space available for more iron to bind to), uibc is calculated by substracting level of iron from TIBC ( 455-25= 430), transferrin is used to transport iron, 5% saturation means only 5% of transferrin is used to bind iron, because there is not enough iron for it to bind to, (iron deficiency anemia). ...Read more
Recent labs showed high platelets high iron high tibc low normal ferritin level of 12 is this iron deficiency ?
Likely: The best test for iron deficiency anemia (ida) is ferritin. Sometimes when there is inflammation (an possible associated anemia of chronic disease/inflammation, the ferritin may increase as an acute phase reactant). The "gold standard" for diagnosis is a bone marrow biopsy, but rarely needed. High platelets are also associated with ida. Treatment should improve platelets and ferritin. ...Read more
Most common low iron: The most common cause of anemia in a toddler is iron deficiency. Usually this occurs in a toddler that drinks alot of milk, and not much else (not eating foods rich in iron). This is easily diagnosed and reversible with iron supplementation. If this is not the cause, then either blood loss (small amount in stool over time?) or hemoglobinopathy possible (and other things) - see a peds hematologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Iron def anemia: You have iron deficiency anemia-from your blood work provided. You need iron supplement-but most importantly to find out why you have iron deficiency anemia. Bleeding/blood loss- , malabsorption of iron in the stomach, or poor nutrition status/not enough intake of iron from the food could be the cause. Go to see your pmd and have more eval. If needed, referral to a hematologist can be done by pmd. ...Read more

High iron and iron saturation. Ferritin normal.can this be caused by eating too much iron rich foods? Will decreasing iron rich foods help?
See Doctor: It is unusual for a woman who is still in the age group having menstural periods to have a high iron and iron saturation, and also unusual for the ferritin to be completely normal range if the iron is very high. You might have an unusual disease called Hemochromatosis, which is an iron storage disease. Stop any iron or multivit+ mineral supplements and see doc. Might need phlebotomy (take blood ...Read more

MCHC: MCHC=mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration This value is a calculated value of hemoglobin per red cell. In iron deficiency the body has difficulty making enough hemoglobin, and the resultant cells are both small and low on hgb. The defect with PA is not with hgb synthesis but with cell replication and nuclear maturation, so the amount of hgb/cell is unaffected. ...Read more
