Hmm. Not so good!:
The amylase number doesn't quite make sense, but the rest could be infection or some other process, definitely abnormal. Depends a lot on age of your child, and of course on physical exam and your history. I'd look for a second opinion if your child is sick. Good luck!! ...Read more

Correct diagnosis?: It is possible for a child this age to have iron deficiency anemia, but if this is truly the cause of the anemia, it should start improving in 2-3 weeks with an increase in the reticulocyte count. If the anemia does not get better, then other causes of anemia need to be considered (for example thalassemia). If your child is truly taking the iron, then a pediatric hematologist should get involved. ...Read more

Eat iron containing foods, take a supplement daily, and stay well hydrated. Your low iron could be tough on you after delivery because during childbirth everyone loses blood and the lower the level you start with, the tougher it is to feel energetic after the baby gets here. ...Read more

If you had a child under 66 lbs go into anaphylactic shock and you only had an adult epi pen would you use iron the child?
Anaphylactic shock can be fatal and the most effective treatment is injectable epinephrine so I would give it as the risk of too much epinephrine is less than the risk of the child dying from anaphylaxis.
However, if you think a child is at risk of anaphylaxis it would be wise to get an EpiPen Jr. ...Read more

None: The medical causes of 'fatigue' have been ruled out. There are no more tests. The other issue that is not addressed yet is mental health and possible depression. ...Read more

Can a child take an iron supplement (ferrous sulfate) while taking prednisone? My 1 year old was diagnosed with itp on wed. He has had 2 doses of prednisolone. About 2 weeks before this diagnosis he was slightly anemic and was given the iron supplement
Yes: Iron and Prednisolone is ok. I would be wary of starting a child on a steroid who is also anemic. While steroids can be used for itp, I would want to really, really, make sure there was not another process going on that would explain the anemia and low platelets. I would want a peds hem/onc doctor involved if they are not - at least as a phone consult from your child's doc to talk about the plan. ...Read more
