Why is it low.: This is an impossible question to answer without more information.
How low is it,
how old are you,
has a physician figured out why it is low,
what is the surgery.
As you can see this is to complex an issue to any in a forum such as this
what you need to do is talk to the surgeon scheduled to do your procedure and come up with a plan.
Good luck. ...Read more

Post op anemia: Most likely is a reflection of some blood loos during the surgery, which is not unusual. It takes around 3 months for your blood levels to normalize. At this point it is very unlikely that your anemia is due to some sort of vitamin deficiency. I would not worry about. Just continue taking your vitamin supplements. And follow up labs in a few months. ...Read more

If I will be undergoing myomectomy surgery -fundal fibroids (3), in my 30's, what is normal hb (hemoglobin)? Do I need blood transfusion?

About 12-16 g/dL.: Normal hemoglobin for an adult female is between 12-16 g/dl (7.4-9.9 mmol/l). You might need blood, like 2 units for your surgery to replace any blood lost. If you are anemic, which might be the case in these circumstances, you might need more. At any rate, your doctor, to prepare you for surgery might talk to you about autologous transfusion, or donating blood to yourself. Best of luck. ...Read more

It's very easy to diagnose and treat but there are many other causes for anemia as well. Because there is risk for blood loss during any surgery, it is best to have your levels in the normal range before going to surgery. Hope this helps ...Read more
