Can one low hCG level reading determine a miscarriage??

Can one low hCG level reading determine a miscarriage??

Not really: One BHCG level really only confirms you are pregnant. It needs to be compared to subsequent levels and in the context of your clinical situation. How far along are you or should you be? Are you having bleeding and/or cramping etc. All these play into a possible diagnosis. ...Read more

If I have low hCG levels, does that mean I am going to have a miscarriage?

If I have low hCG levels, does that mean I am going to have a miscarriage?

No: Hcg alone cannot tell one they are going to miscarry. In early pregnancy the HCG should double every 2-3 days. If it is falling, or is not rising substantially over time, it is likely that there is a problem with the pregnancy (impending or current miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy). Once there is a visible pregnancy on ultrasound, hcgs have little value, and the ultrasound is more meaningful. ...Read more

Have miscarried twice at 4 and 3 weeks respectively due to low hCG levels. What to expect next. Is there any treatment for low hCG levels.

Low HCG miscarriage: Are you sure it is low HCG and not low progesterone? Sometimes women have low progesterone and need suplementation so the pregnancy can continue i.e is the HCG low because the embryo is not viable? Also did they do analysis of the products of conception? Do you have lupus? Anitphosphlid antbodies?, anticardiolipin antibodies? At this point would find a fertility specialist. Was told I miscarried on 5/15 due to low HCG levels. Took a test and it's positive, as well as some symptoms. Can I still be pregnant? No U/S done.

HCG: Positive pregnancy test and some symptoms may be present as the hormone levels are still a bit high although may not be enough to sustain pregnancy. You should call your doctor's office for further recommendations. ...Read more

Hello, I ha two early miscarriages. Both happened in 5 weeks. My hCG levels were each time very low 6.5. Please help me. Why do I miscarry so early?

Blighted ovum: There are so many things that must happen just right at just the right time for us to have normal babies that it is miraculous that it happens at all. Some studies suggest that 1/2 of all pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1/2 or the time we don't even realize we are pregnant. There are a lot of things that can cause this including genetic problems. See a doctor specializing in high risk pregnancies ...Read more

My last period was 23 feb, my hCG level went from 28 to 42 is this could be a miscarriage as my hCG level is very low?

Rising BHCG: Bhcg should increase by about 66% every 48 hours. You numbers are very low and it is unclear over what time period the two numbers were done. You will need to continue to follow the levels to see if they rise normally. Once they reach about 1500 a pregnnacy could be detected by sonogram. Good luck. ...Read more

5 wks & 5 days pregnant. Little to no cramping but spotting red blood with HCG level low. Does this mean a miscarriage?

Maybe: Many pregnancies are complicated by spotting/bleeding in the first trimester. This doesn't have to mean you will miscarry, but the chances are higher. Your HCG level should be rising at a pretty predictable rate at this point. If you have it retested, and the level hasn't doubled over about 72 hours, then that's a bad sign. Also, it would help to know your progesterone level and your blood type. ...Read more

Pregnant with blood hCG levels at 15 DPO are around 6and progesterone =5, which is low? Hv I miscarried? My obgyn asked to take promethium. Will it help?

Recheck HCG: I would recommend you recheck the BHCG in a couple of days. A level of 6 may be negative, based on the lab doing the test. A progesterone level of 5 is low, but I' not convinced you are pregnant at this point. ...Read more

5 wks pregnant. Low HCG levels. Little to no pain, light red blood spotting, negative blood type. RH shot given, could still be a miscarriage?

Maybe not: Spotting in pregnancy is never reassuring; however, it doesn't always mean a miscarriage. The only way to know for sure is to get repeated HCG levels to see if they are rising as they should. Ultrasound frequently isn't helpful until 6-7 weeks. Best wishes! ...Read more

Worrisome: The low HCG is worrisome. It should be about double in 48 hours. A progesterone level would also be helpful in determining if it is a good pregnancy. ...Read more

Just had my third miscarriage in a row and when I started bleesing went to a&e and was told my hCG level was 5 can it be a problem with the progestron?

Just had my third miscarriage in a row and when I started bleesing went to a&e and was told my hCG level was 5 can it be a problem with the progestron?

Could be cervix, etc: This could be due to an incompetent cervix and may need what is called a cerclage to correct it. There could be a Progesterone deficiency and so supplements may help. There could be other issues, like chromosomal abnormalities, preeclampsia, and hypothyroidism involved, so it would be smart to see your doctor for an exam and hormone studies to find out. Best of luck. ...Read more

Why would my hcg levels be at 13 5 weeks after a miscarriage?

Can take a long time: It can sometimes take a very long time for pregnancy hormone levels to completely go below the detection limit of the test (e.g., 5 mIU/ml). As long as there is pregnancy hormone activity around it is better to follow it to be sure it does not flare up. It is also good to be on effective birth control during this time period. Otherwise a new pregnancy can be mistaken for a flare up. ...Read more

My hCG levels were 143 on the 28th 30 hours later they were 136 does this automatically mean miscarriage?

HCG not rising: Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is produced in pregnancy, and rises very quickly, even over a 30 hour time frame, so any lowering from one measurement to another is not usual for normal pregnancy Some tests are not always accurate (lab error) though, so test again in 5-7 days. If no increase, generally the pregnancy will miscarry. ...Read more
