Symptoms too?: Fever is non-specific and doesn't point at the gb alone. Do you have any typical gb symptoms like pain after meals in the ruq? Some illnesses of the gb are caused by build up of cholesterol inside the wall of the gallbladder. No stones will be seen. If you have RUQ pain and 9% ejection fraction from the gallbladder not emptying properly, consider discussing these findings with a general surgeon. ...Read more

Gallbladder (Definition)

The gallbladder is a sac-like structure located under the right lobe of the liver. It is attached to the common bile duct via the cystic duct. The gallbladder can store bile when the bile is not needed, and can squeeze bile into the bile duct and intestine for digestion when a person eats larger ...Read more

Is it normal to have a low grade fever (99.1-99.3) on the day the gallbladder is removed?

Is it normal to have a low grade fever (99.1-99.3) on the day the gallbladder is removed?

Post-op fever.: It wouldn’t be unusual for you to experience a temperature elevation within 24 hours of an operation. The cutting results in the body wanting to heal itself. And healing is accomplished by inflammation. The cells of inflammation release pyrogens, which elevate the temperature a bit. So a low grade fever (< 100.4) would be OK in those first 24 hours, assuming you’re healing well otherwise. ...Read more

Aftr gallbladder surgery on09-11-2012 my wife is having fever in the evening 5 hrs, taking trizolid-600 from last 04days, now fever only 2 hrs. Tips?

Aftr gallbladder surgery on09-11-2012 my wife is having fever in the evening 5 hrs, taking trizolid-600 from last 04days, now fever only 2 hrs. Tips?

Antibiotic/fever: Daily fever of 5 hours, six months after gallbladder surgery is concerning. Fever might not be related to surgery. However, if your doc started your wife on oral antibiotic (trizolid is anti staph/mrsa) and she is responding with less time febrile, that implies an infection exists. Okay to ask your doc where the infection is located. Imaging, ct scan of abdomen may have been done/could help. ...Read more

It: It is definitely not normal to have a fever for two consecutive weeks after gallbladder surgery. There are many different possible causes of post-op fever--your surgeon is in the best position to determine this since he knows details about your medical history, operative findings, and current physical examination. If your fever and abdominal pain persists, you need to return to see your surgeon this week. At the very least, he may want to do some blood tests to check for an elevated white blood cell count and/or check your liver enzymes. I hope that you start to feel better soon. ...Read more

Fever: Hi, no it is not normal to have fever after any surgery, but be careful about what you are calling fever, the fever definition is a temperature of equal to more than 100.4, if your temp is higher or equal to this number then your doctor should figure out why, any blood collection anywhere? Infection?
Hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

Had perirectal surgeries 3x in last 3 mo. Last one being Thxgiving. He's in pain again w/low grade fever. Dr put on stronger antibiotic. Anything else?

See surgeon again.: The fever may indicate that there is still infection and pus that has not been drained. Continue antibiotics, warm soaks, and if continues, visit the surgeon for possible further incision and drainage. Also ask the surgeon whether the recurrent perirectal infection might indicate underlying inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease, and further GI evaluation is indicated. ...Read more

3wk post op bowel obst/hernia surgery. Low grade fever 100 stomach alittle hot to touch yellow type discharge, weak body no energy. Wound infection?

Possibly: These are pretty non-specific symptoms for an infection. The weakness and lack of energy are probably the most worrisome. If it was a wound infection, I would expect wound to be red and swollen.

Also could be infection of the mesh, although more likely, you are just accumulating a seroma (fluid collection) around the mesh.

See your surgeon tomorrow. ...Read more

I have a low functioning gallbladder can it cause weight loss? Also what are the risks of gallbladder surgery? Hida scan showed low activity

Possible: If GB function is low <20%, then it could be the cause of pain when you eat fatty foods, and some people change diet enough to loose some weight, but not too common. GB surgery done by a surgeon with a laparoscope is an outpatient procedure, most should take under an hour, go home same day. There are some serious and rare risks, please talk to your surgeon about it. ...Read more

Stomach/rib near gallbladder is super sore (pain on/off months) Low grade fever (99.4f), diarrhea, vomiting, potentially drank bad apple juice. Daughter got flu vaccine (NOT an anti-vaxxer!!) yesterday, symptoms started last night. Worth ER or nap?

Its not from the flu: It is possible you are having cholecystitis, inflammation of the gall bladder and should be checked out if this continues or the fever breaks 101. The fact that its on and off for months makes me think you have been having GB issues and may even have stones. I would get it checked.
The flu vac did not cause this illness. The vac may give your daughter aches and low fever but not the flu or anyth ...Read more
