Do anabolic steroids interfere with low dose combination birth control? If so, which steroids?

Do anabolic steroids interfere with low dose combination birth control? If so, which steroids?

They may: I cannot find any studies of this issue, but did find several articles indicating that there are concerns that there may indeed be some interactions, especially in adolescents and young adults. WHY are you concerned about anabolic steroids? Are you using them for body building, and if so, are they prescribed? Talk to your health care professional and/or pharmacist asap as this may be harmful. ...Read more

Will deltasone (prednisone) increase testosterone?

Not likely: Deltasone is a brand of prednisone. It is a corticosteroid which is much different than an anabolic or androgenic steroid. Different doses of prednisone for 1yr. Now on 40mg-asthma, respiratory infection. taking symbicort, (budesonide and formoterol) nebulizer, rescue inhaler.BP is high. is it meds?

Possibly: I am very concerned that you have been on prednisone for a year for asthma. That is not good at all. I think you need to step up your preventive asthma therapy, adding in other preventives to your inhaled steroid, among other things. See a specialist for this asap. Yes, the elevated BP may be steroid related. ...Read more

Does the xopenex (levalbuterol) inhaler contain steroids?

Does the xopenex (levalbuterol) inhaler contain steroids?

No.: Xopenx is a single medicine known as a short-acting-beta agonist (saba). There is no steroid. Its base medicine is albuterol. Most drugs have two forms-the active chemical and its mirror image (kind or like a right hand and left hand). Many drugs, only one of them works as the medicine. Pulmicort vs steroids was not referencing anabolic steroids: other steroids (pills, liquid inhalers) for asthma. Dr told me not as damaging 2 body. T/f?

True!: Pulmicort is an inhaled form of corticosteroid designed to reduce inflammation in your lungs that make asthma worse. The reason it has less side effects than the pill form is because the liver is able to break down much of the drug before it can affect the rest of your body. Pulmicort is the asthma drug of choice for pregnant patients and is category b. ...Read more

How do asthma oral steroids compare? Budesonide versus fluticasone, mometasone etc.

How do asthma oral steroids compare? Budesonide versus fluticasone, mometasone etc.

Not Fair Question: Everybody's genetics are different, so response to steroids between everybody is different. There are charts to show potency on each individual steroid. The most important thing is to find the right medical therapy to get your asthma under control...Not the low dose of inhaled corticosteroid or the type used. Oral steroids are much more dangerous with higher side effects. ...Read more

Corticosteroid asthma medicine symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) or advair diskus; which is better?

Corticosteroid asthma medicine symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) or advair diskus; which is better?

Both are good: It's a matter of personal response to the medications. Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) is an aerosol and the coordination required to inhale it is a little harder than the diskus. Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) contains formoterol as the long-acting bronchodilator, and that works faster than the salmeterol in advair. Both come in different strengths as well. Try both and consider what each costs on your plan and the side effects you have. ...Read more

How dose such a small maintenance dose of prednisone 5 mg daily w/ plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) prevent my lupus flares more than plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) alone? It works great.

How dose such a small maintenance dose of prednisone 5 mg daily w/ plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) prevent my lupus flares more than plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) alone? It works great.

Can help!: While plaquenyl is a slow acting but effective drug, Prednisone is used in much higher doses in active sle. There are a number of reasons you might feel so much better on a low (5mg) dose: 1.Plaquenyl has not fully kicked in. 2. Arthritis (non-deforming) or arthralgias associated with the disease will have substantial pain relief with a dose this low. 3. You will get a modest energy boost at 5mg! ...Read more
