Could taking low dose aspirin and mega fish oil daily cause orthostatic hypotention to become worse?

Could taking low dose aspirin and mega fish oil daily cause orthostatic hypotention to become worse?

Potentially the fish: Oil could result in loose stools and intravascular volume depletion with resultant orthostatic hypotension however seeing that you are taking medications for Parkinson's it is MUCH MORE LIKELY to be due to the Parkinson's than anything else you are taking or doing. Wear good quality thigh high support stockings and see if that helps. Florinef (fludrocortisone) or Midodrine could potentially be helpful too. ...Read more

Fish Oil (Definition)

Fish oils contain two active omega-3 fatty acids, dha and epa. Most fish oil products contain both dha and epa, but supplements enriched in dha or epa are available. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to significantly reduce sudden cardiac death. Some studies also indicate the potential for benefits in dementia and risk of heart attack. The omega-3 content of cold water ...Read more

Does daily low dose aspirin, fish oil, and turmeric coupled with a couple light beers thin the blood too much? Affect rbc?

Does daily low dose aspirin, fish oil, and turmeric coupled with a couple light beers thin the blood too much? Affect rbc?

Aspirin thins blood: Aspirin is the only one from what you mentioned that thins the blood. From what I know, turmeric fish oil and beer do not cause blood thinning. So if you take all these there shouldn't be an additive blood thinning effect. Enjoy! ...Read more

Taking low dose aspirin for CVE and stroke prevention. Also on 80mg of Lipitor (atorvastatin). Taking fish oil also. Am I at serious risk for hemorrhagic stroke?

Taking low dose aspirin for CVE and stroke prevention. Also on 80mg of Lipitor (atorvastatin). Taking fish oil also. Am I at serious risk for hemorrhagic stroke?

Excellent Question: ScottK, you ask an excellent question. There is some evidence that having too low a blood cholesterol level can be dangerous as well as high cholesterol. Blood vessel walls need cholesterol for flexibility, and if two low can become fragile. Although the likelihood of a problem is low, I would discuss with your doctor. You might also want to think about adding Co-Q10. Take care and stay well! ...Read more

Having colonoscopy next week. Is it critical that low dose aspirin, fish oil, multivitamin, and vitamin C be discontinued 7 days in advance?

Having colonoscopy next week. Is it critical that low dose aspirin, fish oil, multivitamin, and vitamin C be discontinued 7 days in advance?

Yes If Told Not: The Aspirin and fish oil both can thin your blood and cause bleeding issues during the procedures. Vitamins often have dyes in them that can discolor the tissues and make it difficult to accurately assess any conditions that might be present. Do you really want to go through the prep for the test to get false or inaccurate results? Follow the doctor's orders! ...Read more

Is it safe to take fish oil supplements with a low dose aspirin daily? Cholesterol is 174, I take aspirin because I've had 2 tia's.

Is it safe to take fish oil supplements with a low dose aspirin daily? Cholesterol is 174, I take aspirin because I've had 2 tia's.

Yes: Both low dose aspirin and fish oil reduce risk of blood clots. They have a synergistic effect & also work together to reduce inflammation, the major underlying cause of cardiovascular disease.
Some advise exercising caution as this combo may slightly increase risk of bleeding but I consider them quite safe together. Your risk of clotting is more than risk of bleeding.

Pcp has me taking 3 krill oil pills daily due to low omega 3's. I also take a low dose aspirin for heart attack prevention. Too much blood thinning?

Probably not: Omega 3`s and low dose Aspirin work at different levels. Omega 3`s replace cell products that release products of inflammation while the omega 3`s don't. Aspirin affects the blood platelets that normally control clotting and bleeding. ...Read more

Fish oil and aspirin taken together in pregnancy?

Fish oil and aspirin taken together in pregnancy?

Why?: You are 38 and pregnant. It is unlikely that you have heart disease. There is no data for Aspirin for primary prevention (before you have heart disease) only for secondary prevention (after your first heart attack or stent). There is less data for fish oil. I would avoid taking anything shaped like a pill during pregnancy beyond a prenatal vitamin without a compelling reason. ...Read more

What is better to take fish oil or baby aspirin I'm 69 years old.

In pills: These have different effects. The fish oil presumably helps with the circulation and health of the heart. Can I take fish oil supplements while on prinivil (lisinopril) and aspirin?

Can I take fish oil supplements while on prinivil (lisinopril) and aspirin?

Yes, with care: Using fish oil along with Prinivil (lisinopril) and Aspirin is usually safe. But please tell your doctor you're taking it. Omega-3 supplements can make your platelets less sticky, which is a good thing in many ways. However, in some people fish oil's effects along with other medicines being used can lead to decreased clotting -- or more bruising. That's why I suggest care, until you see how it affects you. ...Read more

How much inflammation does aspirin and fish oil really reduce in high risk patients with cad? Does it reduce plaque buildup?

How much inflammation does aspirin and fish oil really reduce in high risk patients with cad? Does it reduce plaque buildup?

Depends: Nothing much can make up for the typical horrible American diet and lack of exercise, and smoking. Pills without lifestyle changes can help some but there is clinical evidence that a 10% fat diet does REDUCE plaque over time. See the Dean Ornish, M.D. diet plan. And do what your doc recommends medicine-wise. ...Read more

I'm 23, would it be okay to take calcium, fish oil, multivitamin, and a baby aspirin daily for prevention and lower risks of any diseases?

No data: No data has shown any of those will change the incidence of developing any disease in your age group (or for decades to come). You simply add cost and complicate your life. If you want to stay healthy, stay normal weight or reduce if over, eat a balanced, nutritious diet, don't smoke, and get daily exercise. Maintain positive mental health & keep busy. Hand and feet numbness, and lightheadness right after taking fish oil or aspirin. Blood is very thin and watery. Should I eat more fattening food?

Allergic reaction: You maybe allergic to one of these non- prescriptions since it occurs right after you ingest them. Unless you have a family history of heart disease at an early age less than 45 or you have risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol there is no need to take these supplement at 23 years old. I would recommend it if you were over 45 and had those risk factors. ...Read more

Very Controversial: Because Most people have a risk under 1/1000 per year of heart attack (if No personal history), the risk of ulcer from Aspirin is higher.

Your situation.... Without an actual examination, I cannot give specific medical advice on your particular health....

Ast is high 120 and ALT is normal 48, taking januvia (sitagliptin), metformin, losartan, simvastatin, fish oil, baby aspirin. Why my AST is high &how to lower ast?

Alcohol or diet: There are many causes of an abnormal ast but the most likely is drinking too much alcohol. If the alt were also high then fatty liver caused by overweight would be more likely. There are also rarer additional causes like gallstones, pancreatic disease, viral infection, medication, and immune hepatitis. Best to discuss with your md or a liver specialist. ...Read more

Lightheaded and numbness in hands and feet whenever I take fish/oil, aspirin or any blood thinner. Clean diet (olive oil) for 2 years. Blood too thin?

Etiology unclear: Taking fish oil, aspirin, or other blood thinners, e.g. Vit E, cause the platelets not to clot as well. The result of easy bruising is common. Light headedness and numbness in the hands and feet suggests a different cause. Is your diet rich enough in iron to make red blood cells or are you anemic? Consider a vit with iron or iron tablets. Do you have enough fluids: dehydrated? Fluids and salts help ...Read more
