Keep taking it: Your dad should follow a vegetarian, vegan or Mediterranean diet. He should exercise daily, not smoke, and be sure he has normal BP. Beyond that, he need not do anything else. The 2013 AHA guidelines point out that just taking a statin is protective regardless of the level attained - they don't even recommend re-checking it after you begin the statin.
