Low Calcium Diet (Overview)

Those who do not receive enough calcium over a long period of time can develop calcium deficiency. This condition leads to osteoporosis, loss of the jaw bone (osteonecrosis), hypertension, and other disorders. Persons with lactose intolerance have trouble digesting lactose, the sugar in milk. There are over-the-counter products available that make it easier to digest lactose. You can also buy lactose-free milk at most grocery stores. In rare instances, some people have a true allergy to the protein in milk. Such persons must avoid all dairy products and may need to take calcium supplements.

Urinalysis shows calcium oxilate stones. I maintain a low calcium diet but I am still forming them by the dozens. Is there something else i can do?

Urinalysis shows calcium oxilate stones. I maintain a low calcium diet but I am still forming them by the dozens. Is there something else i can do?

Calcium renal stones: If you are constantly forming kidney stones (ks), you need to have 24 hour urine collection for calcium, uric acid and phosphate. If you have high levels of calcium (c) in your urine in 24 hours, you may need to be on hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) therapy to reduce your urine c. If you have high levels of parathyroid hormone, you may also have an increased incidence of ks and need treatment. See a urologist for an answer. ...Read more
