A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. I usually have heavy blood flow during menstruation, however for this past two days, my blood flow is very light. Is it something to worry about?
Could be: A menstrual period that happens on time but is much lighter than usual could be an implantation bleed rather than a period. If you have been having unprotected sex, you need to do a pregnancy test and repeat it in 3-5 days if it is negative. There certainly are other things that can cause a period to be lighter but most will also cause it to be irregular. Hope this helps. ...Read more
I'm wondering why are the levels of oestrogen and progesterone low in the blood during menstruation?
Wow nice question: Long explanation but a brief version. Your menses is an indication that pregnancy did not occur and that your body is now eliminating the lining of your uterus and preparing for a new cycle. It is the decline in estrogen and Progesterone that tells your uterus it is time to shed the lining. The brain starts to stimulate the ovaries in a renewed attempt at getting you pregnant. PCOS usually causes: menstrual irregularity. Often, the small ovarian follicles that are formed do not trigger ovulation and the reproductive hormones--estrogen, progesterone, etc--become imbalanced. Irregular or absent periods result. The uterine lining may become thicker and shed irregularly resulting in heavy bleeding when it finally occurs. One would not want to increase this blood flow further, causing anemia. ...Read more

Normal: Your situation doesn't seem to be outside of normal. If you have had this pattern since you started your menstrual history, it may be normal for you. A lot of times women who have had Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud or another form of Progesterone contraception such as depo-provera had shorter periods that don't return to their "normal" state after discontinuation. If that's the case, than that's ok as well. ...Read more

I see all the symptoms I have during menstruation. Except it's not flowing. It's the first time. What could be the problem and solution?
Rule out pregnancy: Assuming you are not pregnant, which you can easily test for, it may be an anovulatory cycle that will delay or prevent your normal cycle. If you are not pregnant, your doctor can prescribe Provera (medroxyprogesterone) to see if you have withdrawal bleeding. Blood tests for hormone levels including prolactin and to rule out poly cystic ovary syndrome can be done as well. ...Read more

Late periods (3-4 months) during this year I had 5 periods, I'm 21. Blood flow is normal during menses, no pain, hormones level are fine. Why?
Anovulatory: The most common reason women have missed or heavy periods is due to failure to ovulate. During the normal menstrual cycle, estrogen promotes growth of uterine lining. After ovulation, the ovary begins to make progesterone. If no pregnancy, progestrone falls and a cycle begins. Without ovulation, the ovary never switches to progestestrone production. The "periods" are due to irregular shedding. ...Read more

Menorrhagia: Heavy bleeding, or menorrhagia can be due to a variety of reasons. Most common is hormonal. Endometriosis can be a factor. In addition, thyroid, pituitary glands, as well as weight (too thin/heavy), rarely vonwillebrand syndrome. Not usual in someone at 19, a lesion such as a polyp or fibroid can cause as well.
