Liver blood tests: The liver is an amazing organ- it does many things including making proteins your body needs. Albumin is a major protein product of the liver. Chronic illness can cause that to decline- esp. If you're not eating. Globulins are other proteins usually made to fight diseases like infections- perhaps you've been fighting an illness for a few weeks/months that explain this pattern. ...Read more

Protien malnutrition: Albumen is an acute phase reactant and it is difficult to interpret well in the critically ill. That being said, very low albumen can indicate protein malnutrition, making it more difficult to heal wounds, makes drug delivery less reliable (some drugs bind to albumen for transport), make pulmonary edema harder to treat... The list is long. For that reason, we generally feed patients earlier now. ...Read more
I just had some lab work done. What would cause a low serum albumin level, high alpha 1 and 2 and high c-reactive protein and low vit d?
Likely inflammation: Generally, decreased Albumin and increased globulins are seen in inflammatory conditions, acute or chronic. The fever ; high CRP also support this. Of note, other conditions may cause this including cancer, but still, the most likely explanation is infection/inflammation. A low vitamin d level may be caused by inadequate intake, no sun exposure, absorbtion problem, kidney disease, obesity. ...Read more

CT doesn't show TIAs: It doesn't even show strokes unless large or post acute stage. But, in you age a TIA is rare anyways. Hi glucose means diabetes. If you have had it for 10-15 years, then TIA remains on the list. Kidney function is little low for your age. Gfr should be above 110. Albumin, if in urine suggests long years of diabetes, among others. Autoimmune should be tested but is not very likely, tho possible. ...Read more
