My triglysride is 205 dr giveme lovaza but it is expensive is there any other medicine?

Not that high: 202 in my opinion is not that high. Try a low fat diet. It still remains to be seen whether aggressive triglyceride reduction can improve cardiovascular outcomes. I wouldn't go broke try ing to lower it from 202 to 150. ...Read more

Two years after I started Lovaza, I was prescribed 10 mg Crestor (rosuvastatin). Do I still need to take the Lovaza?

Yes: If the question is if Crestor (rosuvastatin) ok to be taken while on Lovaza the answer is yes. If the question is if you still should be taking Lovaza it is all related to your last cholesterol profile and original goals of therapy. Make sure your prescriber knows all meds/ supplements you take. ...Read more

What are the clinical indications for lovaza other than loweringtriglycerides? Is there clinical data lovaza lowers generalized inflammation?

What are the clinical indications for lovaza other than loweringtriglycerides? Is there clinical data lovaza lowers generalized inflammation?

One FDA indication: The only official fda approved clinical indication for the use of Lovaza is to lower the triglyceride level in patients who have levels that exceed 500 mg/dl and is often used in conjunction with lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. Although there has been some preliminary observations and studies that it can reduce inflammation in the body, studies to prove this are ongoing. Stay tuned. ...Read more

After years of uncontrolled Triglycerides with generics my wife finally lowered them with Lovaza. Pls suggest less expensiv over the cntr solution.?

Lovaza is fish oil: Lovaza is FDA approved omega 3 fish oil with recommended dose of 4 grams per day. One can try OTC fish oil but understand that there is not much regulation with these and maybe not be getting adequate amounts. Try 1000ng tablets (one gram) 3-4 times per day and recheck triglycerides to see if get same effect as Lovaza ...Read more

Does insurance typically cover for off label use of the med? For example, lovaza for inflammation?

It depends. ...: Off label use of a medication is definitely between the patient and the physician. However, payment of such medications may be scrutinized by your insurance company as they will only cover if it is medically necessary and if it is fda approved for that purpose. ...Read more

After years of taking generic OTC omega for uncontrolbl triglycerides dr prescribd Lovaza. Pls suggest less expensive quality name brand OTC?

Elevated TG: I am not aware of anything better than Lovaza. If you go to OTC you would have to take a handful of pills severSl times a day & it would still not control your TG. Watch your fat and carb intake, reduce your weight and you will decrease your dose most likely. ...Read more

A prescription of 1g Lovaza pills costs $50 Looking for a lesser expensive omega3 name brand OTC of equivalent purity to substitute.?

Fish oil: Great?
i feel Lovaza is way over priced. Fish oil is mainly indicated for really high triglycerides and its role for primary prevention of heart disease is unclear.
I would ask your local pharmacist for a recommended brand of omega 3--and try to take 1-2 grams a day ...Read more

Can I take over-the-counter fish oil instead if lovaza? It's very expensive. Does cost justify benefits vs otc?

You can, but....: Otc does not carry the same guarantee of purity and may not work as well. Some sources otc are very good while others aren't. The less expensive it is, the less likelihood of purity and effectiveness. ...Read more

I have been told that I have an elevated lp (a), ie lipoprotein a. Already on crestor, (rosuvastatin) lovaza and ubiquinol. What else can I do to bring it down?

Exercise: You've hit the bug-a-boo on the head with so-called "new" risk factors. There is no direct treatment for lpa abnormalities, other than what you are already doing. I would add achieving the aha-recommended amount of exercise (150 minutes / week of moderate activity), obviously don't smoke, and watch the diet. Kudos to you for wanting to take care of health! ...Read more

What are the long term side effects of a 55 yo man using tamoxifen? No history of blood clots, on lovaza 4g/day. I have no obvious symptoms from taking it.

What are the long term side effects of a 55 yo man using tamoxifen? No history of blood clots, on lovaza 4g/day. I have no obvious symptoms from taking it.

Hmm...off-label use?: Tamoxifen is fda-approved for use in breast cancer, most commonly in women. So all the known side effects are described for women, not men. Check out www. Epocrates. Com & www. Drugs. Com for info on any given drug, tamoxifen included. The list of potential side effects is pretty long so you want to be sure that you really need this medication and that desired benefit exceeds potential risk. ...Read more

Can caffeine decrease effectiveness of clonazepam, risperidone or lovaza? It seems as though after a few cups of coffee or tea my symptoms get worse.

Do cut caffeine: Also, anxiety symptoms can be much more effectively treated by cognitive behavioral therapy than by using Clonazepam (which can be over-sedating and addictive). Be worth meeting with a licensed clinical psychologist with experience in this form of specialist therapy. ...Read more

I'm taking trilipix (135mg) and lovaza....They're fairly expensive...Can I substitute them with OTC niacin and OTC fish oil pills? Thanks!

I'm taking trilipix (135mg) and lovaza....They're fairly expensive...Can I substitute them with OTC niacin and OTC fish oil pills? Thanks!

Generic fenofibrate: My guess is you have very high trig level to require both trilipix and lovaza. You must know about the importance of lifestyle factors. You could try otc omega 3, but if your trig level is over 500, it is highly advisable to continue trilipix or a generic fenofibrate. Generic Fenofibrate is less effective than trilipix and needs to be taken with meals. Especially fat meals. ...Read more

I'm taking trilipix (135mg) and lovaza....They're fairly expensive...Can I substitute them with OTC niacin and OTC fish oil pills? Thanks!

Not really: They are not equivalent: trilipix is a fibrate - different than niacin; lovazaa contains very selected and precise quantities of fatty acids that are not found in otc supplements. If you want to go inexpensive to lower your triglycerides try to loose weight (7-10% of your current body weight), eat less sugars, exercise 45-60 min/ day x 5-7 days a week, and eat fish. ...Read more

What is best pain medication?

What is best pain medication?

There are none...: Even the strongest opiates only "take the edge off" for people in chronic pain. Meds are only one part of dealing with the pain. A useful tool, but pain is so necessary for survival that we are not "allowed" to monkey with it much. In acute pain, the transition from miserable to less miserable can be great. In chronic pain, it's just part of the plan. ...Read more
