What's the best way for me to prevent pityriasis alba to take control of my face like it did last summer?

Pityriasis alba: Pityriasis alba is a type of eczema that presents as lighter-than-skin-color patches on face & arms. It is more apparent in the summer because it doesn't tan when normal skin does. In the short term, the best thing to do is to apply a good broad-spectrum sunscreen so that your normal skin doesn't tan either. Also there are topical nonsteroid treatments. Steroids can lighten p. Alba even more. ...Read more

Need stronger stuff: Bad acne won't respond to salicylic acid, and sulfur isn't really for acne anyway. Get with your personal physician now. You're 19 and starting on your career & maybe even serious dating. Acne like yours is a major liability -- it can cause you to fail a job interview as evidence of poor self-care -- and you're going to need prescription-strength medicine to manage it. ...Read more

What are these white patchy spots. On my face (cheeks)? Doc said its pityrisias alba but not enough info about it. They have on/off worsening periods.

Poor pigmentation: It sounds like you are describing poor pigmentation which can be due to pityriasis alba or other causes. Poor pigmentation seems much worse with sun exposure because the rest of the skin tans/darkens in response to the sun and these areas don't. I would recommend an evaluation by a dermatologist (skin specialist) for another opinion or other treatment options. ...Read more

Possible infection: Many possible causes of thick discharge--from a yeast infection to stds to bacterial infections. You can't tell (and the dr can't tell) just by looking. Steroid side effects: Steroids have cumulative side effect of weight gain and fat deposition. The longer you are on them the longer it takes to return to normal. Your md will start tapering the Hydrocortisone when they feel the other medications are effective. Never stop steroids abruptly as this can cause dire consequence.
