I have had a sore throat and been coughing for the past few days, then totally lost my voice yesterday. How do I get my voice back quickly?

Fluid + voice rest: Seemingly u got laryngitis, often from viral illness and resolves on its own. The virus/coughing inflammed the vocal cords, hence the hoaresness. Warm fluids, voice rest (cord rest), motrin, cough meds etc..For a few days..If u need to talk, don't whisper because whispering actually worsens it--it vibrates vocal more. So, rest your voice.. If lasting more then 1-2 wks, consult doc.. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a sore throat like i've swallowed glass and have lost my voice, what can I do to help recovery?

Croup: Sounds like you have croup. Hot liquids will south you. Usually croup is of viral etiology and does not require much management. A short course of steroids helps relieve the symptoms. I lost my voice yesterday afternoon and now am getting a sore throat should I go to the doctor?

Not necessarily: It appears that you are developing laryngitis (voice box inflammation). In most cases it is caused by a virus and is a self limited disease requiring no major treatment or a visit to doctor. Fever, especially past 3 days, symptoms of choking, drooling, stridor (whistling while taking a breath), shortness of breath must be evaluated promptly as they may be a sign of a life threatening disease. ...Read more

Laryngitis: Yes, it is possibly viral laryngitis and if you are still smoking you need to stop. It could also be bronchitis. Both are likely to heal with rest, lots of fluids, voice rest, and time. If you get a high fever or start coughing up green phlegm you should see your doctor. ...Read more

I had a sore throat & cough for 3days. I lost my voice. Now I am constantly coughing with no help from my albuterol. Can my albuterol be an issue?

Why are you using al: You apparently have a respiratory problem/you are using albuterol, and i suppose you have bronchial asthma the viral infection is causing the symptoms of laryngitis and you are hoarse, albuterol will only help the wheezing and cough, but if you have asthma you should be on inhaled steroids. So discuss with your doctor what is the best treatment for you sometimes we use oral steroids for hoaseness. ...Read more

It : It sounds like you have a viral infection which caused laryngitis(loss of voice because virus affected your voice box). Then it has moved into bronchitis, which is causing coughing attacks. Feeling of throat closing up and coughing fits could be from bronchospasm, which is due to narrowing and swelling of air ways. I recommend that you should see your physician for treatment. Bronchospasm is treated with albuterol. This medication helps relieve the spasm in the airways, helps the cough too. While this is being treated and it taking time to improve, cough can be suppressed with cough medication too in the mean time. If symptoms are treated, that will give the body chance to rest and divert that energy to fight the infection too. ...Read more

See a doctor: White spots on the tonsils could mean strep throat, but not necessarily. It could be a virus, and either one could cuase laryngitis with loss of voice. There are other less common infections as well that could do this. But if strep, you definitely need to know in order to get an antibiotic prescription. See your doctor ASAP. Good luck! ...Read more

I have sore throat I've lost my voice 1 day. I have asmtha. Doctor told me it's throat infection as it's red. As I cough servery ?. What do you think

? viral: Most probably it is a viral infection of your upper airways and probably affecting your lower airways too.
