Peds Endo: A pediatric endocrinologist reviews bone age films regularly. If no growth has occurred in 6 months then growth is likely finished and the bone age may be more advanced, particularly if the bone age mentioned was obtained at least 6 months ago. ...Read more

I turn 17 next month and have severe idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis. I have been taking idrophos and calcium after a femur fracture 2 years back. I have lost height due to vertebral compression. Can the height loss be reversed or corrected in any way?

Problems: I am sorry to hear of your issues. At your age height loss might be correctable but you had best hurry to an orthopedic surgeon. If the surgeon has already told you that improvement on your back is unlikely, please get one more opinion. Keep me posted please. ...Read more

Technically: If the discs (the cartilages) between the veterbrae are heavily HYDRATED there can be an increase in height after such hydration. Chiropractic manipulation can adjust the position of the veterbrae perhaps resulting in some small increase in height however these changes are usually TEMPORARY! Probably: I would expect a slow and steady improvement . You probably have a small bruise, hematoma or other post-traumatic injury in the area. If there is some tolerable pain that is gradually improving, then don't sweat it. Tell your brother he owes you a meal! ...Read more

Probably both: Rib fractures are notoriously painful because the fracture site moves with every breath. The hematoma is probably beneath the membrane surrounding the adrenal gland, which when stretched can be quite painful. Sometimes Lidocaine patch over broken rib site can ease pain. Ask doc monitoring hematoma about pain management. ...Read more

Decompressive Crani: After large strokes , brain develops swelling usually between 3-5 days after stroke . This requires decompressive hemi crani , which removes bony skull from same side of stroke. Depends: A bone bruise, in and of itself does not need to be protected in a cast the way a fracture would; but casts csn be helpful to control swelling and pain from a bone bruise, and potentially improve function. ...Read more
