Why does tongue papilla get inflammed?

Why does tongue papilla get inflammed?

Dry mouth, allergies: Tongue papilla require moistness for proper function. If you suffer from dry mouth, do not drink enough water, or have had an allergic reaction to food, the papillae will enlarge. Make sure to stay hydrated, use a dry mouth mouthwash like biotene twice daily after brushing, and if it persists, see a dentist to make sure it is simply inflammation.

What could be the possible cause of sudden enlarging of the papillae on the back of the tongue?

Probably normal: Everyone has 10-14 large papillae (circumvallate papillae) on the far back of the tongue. They can be hard to see, and when first noticed it is easy to believe they have just appeared or enlarged. Google "circumvallate papillae photos" and compare with what you have noticed. If that's not it or if in doubt, ask your doc or or dentist. Almost certainly this is nothing serious or harmful.
