Amenorrhea: Being underweight is known cause of amenorrhea or lack of menses. Normal body mass index is 18.5-24.9. If you "lost" your menses at BMI 18.8 and now have BMI 18.2, then you're losing weight, not gaining, assuming your height hasn't increased. Possibly: Fat in your midsection can mean several things. If you haven't had thyroid studies recently, ask your doctor about them. Also you may have some food sensitivities or exposure to toxins that causes difficulty with Insulin resistance. What pill?: I'm not sure what type of pill you mean- one that claims to stimulate the thyroid? That's ok but you prob. Need more levothyroxine ;/or to add t3 (liothyronine). 50 mcg is a small dose. Your doc probably thinks its enough because your TSH is ok. Check free t3 (liothyronine)- i like my patients to be in upper half of normal range. Retaining water?: If you are retaining water, you will have rapid weight gain. People that retain water get up at night to urinate. Are you doing that? You should weigh yourself after you get up in the morning, after you urinate. If you gain weight daily, it is due to fluid accumulation, not due to increased muscle mass. Probably not: The weight gain may be just fluid but this should resolve when the prednisione stopped, you have gained fat weight. You will need a strict diet to lose this weight. ...Read more

Metformin: 47F USA asks does metformin keep you form using weight. Been on "strain diet"no wt loss. I recommend you get an app like Fitness Pal and track your calories in and calories out. I predict you will find that your are eating more than you are burning. What ever it is I would reduce calories 500 a day and see what happens till you get down to 1000 cal a day. Possible, but: It may be that even 1200 calories is too much for you, depending upon your height. The shorter you are, the fewer calories you require.
