Ireggular periods: If you had normal periods before the miscarriage, then that would be a concern. If your periods were always irregular, than ok. However, being overweight and poor nutritional status may be a risk factor for irregular period, so weight loss is certainly recommended for that as well s many other health reasons. See your Dr. to help you lose weight as well as assess the periods. Best wishes. ...Read more

Concerted effort: Effort under guidance is the best. I strongly recommend bariatric surgery; through a program though!. Teamwork including dietician, exercise therapist, sleep specialist, psychologist etc are generally needed for the success. The oft heard success stories on various diet commercials or exercise ones are less likely to be successful en masse, most likely to help is your motivation, diet &exercise. ...Read more

1st pregnancy test: You must rule out pregnancy 1st. However if you are exercising heavily that may cause weight loss & missed periods (amenorrhea). Having one miscarriage doesn't necessarily mean you are more likely to have another (it is more common that a predetermined genetic defect in the fertilized egg that implanted in your uterus caused spontaneous abortion to occur. Get a pregnancy test asap & see a doctor. ...Read more

Ive had 3 miscarriages.. I'm currently 8w3d pregnant.. am I at a higher risk to lose this babe too?

Yes: Unfortunately, you are at a higher risk. We test patients with your history for clotting disorders (PAI-1, MTHFR, factor V Leiden, protein c deficiency, protein s deficiency). If a patient tests positive, we treat with blood thinners (heparin or enoxaperin). This has yielded great results in our practice. Also, checking for uterine problems with ultrasound. Best of luck! ...Read more

Talk to your doctor: Some women experience mild depressions after a miscarriage, as it is a significant emotional loss. Get evaluated and see if you need counseling or medications for a short term to help you through this loss. Appetite issues are common with mild depressions. Hang in there, things should improve, but ask for help with this. ...Read more

Ultrasound?: It sounds like you're pregnant. If you had a recent ultrasound and it showed a heartbeat, that's an excellent sign, as risk of miscarriage drops when heartbeat present. Sometimes symptoms (breast tender, for example) can wane and is not necessarily a sign of miscarriage. If you're worried, though, call your doctor and ask for an ultrasound, not unreasonable given your history. Good luck! ...Read more

Answer from doctors: These are complex conditions that are best evaluated by a specialist obgyn or a reproductive endocrinologist. Having information such as dates of any spotting, pain, breast changes might help him or her. Calling for an appointment with the doctor who diagnosed the miscarriage or obtained the prolactin level would be the first step to learning what is happening in the uterus, breast and body. ...Read more
