Is there any harm if a patient has no acid reflux or ulcers or gastritis and takes omeprazole for a period of 1 month? Benefit or bad?

Is there any harm if a patient has no acid reflux or ulcers or gastritis and takes omeprazole for a period of 1 month? Benefit or bad?

Limited harm: As PPI's like omeprazole are well tolerated particularly in the short run like on the order or weeks to months. But the more important question is why you feel the need to take the medication if you have no reflux, gastritis, peptic ulcer, etc.

Prilosec S.E.'s: Prilosec (omeprazole) is a very well tolerated medication & for most people has proven safe for YEARS of use. In the short term it can cause a number of dose-dependent side effects including commonly headache and diarhea. Longer term use carries other consequences (please see my earlier answer on this topic in healthtap). Balance benefit versus risk--

I ve below normal testosterone & low estrogen, am 38 f, how much calcium+vit d shd I take 2 prevent bone loss, ve normal period, also taking omeprazole?

See details: Recent studies have questioned whether supplemental calcium has any benefit for preventing or treating bone loss. I currently do not recommend supplemental calcium above small doses. If you are on omeprazole, take calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. Finally, get a vitamin d level checked and adjust the vitamin d dose accordingly.

Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen): Take them early before the cramps get too bad and take 2 of the aleve (naproxen) twice a day and 3-4 of the Ibuprofen 3 times a day. You aso can soak in a hot tub. That often helps as well. Hope that helps.

Is it normal to feel cramps (like menstrual cramps) in early pregnancy stage)? I've been having some cramps but no period. Last menses nov 5 2013.

Can be normal: It can be very normal to have some fairly strong cramps during early pregnancy, it is extremely common. There is the very small chance that it could indicate a problem with the pregnancy, and so you should see your ob/gyn for an exam and sonogram to ensure nothing is wrong and the baby is developing appropriately. If you have spotting, or heavier bleeding, call you doctor right away.

Pregnancy dating: If you are unsure of your last menstrual period, then the most accurate way to date the pregnancy is with an ultrasound in the first trimester. Since this is how you were dated, I would trust the due date to be accurate.

I am a woman in my 30's with acne. Why is it worse during the time of the month leading up to my menstrual period? What hormones cause this?

I am a woman in my 30's with acne. Why is it worse during the time of the month leading up to my menstrual period? What hormones cause this?

Progesterone: As discussed the shift in Progesterone along with aerogels gave this effect. One treatment option is vitamin b6 which when taken one week prior to period may have positive effect on menstrual flares of acne.Another option is gugulipid, an indian herb which effects cholesterol and trigylerides and has been shown to be safe for acne.

Adult acne in women: Very often there is a type of adult acne that women see, especially around the neck and jaw/chin. It may be related to the ration of estrogen to Progesterone that changes during the menses. See a dermatologist for appropriate treatment.

Irregular bleeding: Spotting is one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ; hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do a home pregnancy test. There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Near March 8: The common method is to subtract 3 months from the start of your last period and add seven days. That gives you the date of March 8. Then figure that date is + or - two weeks.
