Now I am on losartan for 7 days due to side effect of amlodipine but my BP is still 150/90, please advise I am 39 yrs old?

See doc in few weeks: Hypertension is a marathon not a sprint. You are barely off the start line. BP should be given some time to stabilize and you should collect enough blood pressure measurements at home so that your doc can make decisions based on a statistically valid average. Your goal BP is going to be around 140/90 or lower depending upon your doc, comorbidity and the recent literature. ...Read more

Need inhaled steroid: I note that you are only given a bronchodilator for your asthma and if this is the only medication you use, it may even make your asthma worse. You need to find an allergist to better manage your asthma preferably with an inhaled steroid consisting of small-particle aerosol. Don't wait a day longer. ...Read more

Pls prescribe a vitamin for a 33yrs old male who is on Losartan 50mg once daily for HTN+. Feels little weakness in body.....

See below: Any generic, once-a-day, multiple vitamin should cover your needs. Often the least expensive one is the best choice. If you're eating a fairly balanced diet, the vitamin is unlikely to be necessary. Fatigue is almost never due to vitamin deficiency; if your diet is poor, protein and calorie malnutrition is more likely than just vitamin deficiency - I'd look for another cause. Hope you feel better! ...Read more

Care w multiple meds: For folks on multiple meds, it is critical that someone, preferably your primary MD reviews at least twice a yr, preferably quarterly total meds intake and effects they may be having on the body with vital signs and regular blood tests to see if any changes are warranted. While your BP seems a bit low, more imp is to make sure your potassium etc are ok also, which if lie can pose serious risk. ...Read more

Hi. Are there certain foods to avoid while taking Losartan potasssium 100mg? Thankyou.

Hi. Are there certain foods to avoid while taking Losartan potasssium 100mg? Thankyou.

Yes and no: Losartan is a blood pressure medicine that can have the side effect of hyperkalemia (too much potassium). So if you have problems with your potassium being to high, then you should eat a diet that is low in potassium. But I see that you are also taking hydrochlorothiazide which can cause you to have low potassium. Have your labs checked regularly and adjust your potassiium intake as needed ...Read more

Check with your doc: What you need to do is discuss this with the doctor who is treating your hypertension. Do not arbitrarily start giving yourself extra doses of your meds without consultation with your doc. That is a recipe for disaster. ...Read more

I've been on 100mg Losartan for the past year. I've had to stop taking them due to losing insurance. My BP is up to 150/100. When is this an emergency?

Symptoms: High numbers are only an emergency if accompanied by symptoms like chest pain, severe headache, difficulty breathing, or confusion. That being said letting your blood pressure run high will over time put you at risk for stroke, heart failure and kidney failure. Best to find a clinic that works on a cash basis or sliding rate, and make an appointment for as soon as possible. ...Read more

Can Losartan cause migraines?

Haven't heard of it: I prescribe a lot of Losartan, and I haven't had anyone (that I know of, anyway) who got migraines from it. However, medications are a common cause of headache.

When my pts think they might be having a side effect from a med, I tell them the only solution is to see what happens when they stop it. Talk to your doc.

Good Luck.
