Losartan Potassium Versus Bystolic
I have read different things about taking bystolic (nebivolol) & losartan together causing potassium issues should I be concerned? My kidney function is great!!
Probably not: I agree there is a small chance of elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia) with these two medications, if you have no kidney dysfunction or other medications predisposing you to elevated potassium levels you should be fine. Nonetheless you healthcare provider you should be monitoring your for elevated potassium levels, particularly when you just start taking these medications. ...Read more

Losartan often has to be taken twice a day to be fully effective as its efficacy may only last 12 hours. If your blood pressure tends to be highest during the afternoon, I recommend taking it in the morning if you're only on one dose a day. Your physician can advise you ...Read more

Time of onset: Drugs such as losartan (L) may take as long as two weeks to work, as they remodel the endothelium of the arteries making them more compliant which lowers the BP. That process takes about 2 weeks to reach full effect which is why one may not see a BP lowering effect of L sooner than that. You should ask you physician if you should be on 50 mg of L twice a day. Potassium: Increased K is not usual with labetalol, it is not non sp BB, so increased K is not an issue. (there is an error in the entry in Wikipedia). Losartan can cause increased K, but you are on low dose and if kidney function is normal, there should be no issue. All patients on ARB should have their kidney function including potassium checked and time to check can be 1-5 weeks, based on medical history ...Read more
