Can i safely use Claritin (loratadine) eye drops for contacts?

Can i safely use Claritin (loratadine) eye drops for contacts?

No but: In general , it is not a good idea to apply any medicated or preservative-containing on the lens. You can however put the drops in and wait about 30 minutes before wearing the contact lens. On the other hand, the worst scenario is that the drop may shorten the life of your lens somewhat if you do use the drops. ...Read more

Had 2 tear ducts cauterized and didn't help so had all 4 done. Now eyes r tearing nonstop. Will tearing stop with time? Tried Claritin (loratadine) but no luck.

Too much done: Four duct cautery is often helpful for very dry eye, but can be too much for those who still have some tear production. Consider returning to doctor to try to reopen one on each side. ...Read more

Allergies: Maximum recommended daily dose of loratadine is 10mg. Consider getting some over the counter allergy eye drops. Over the counter nasal steroids can also help eye symptoms (example of one is fluticasone) since the nasolacrimal area is so close . ...Read more

Could Claritin (loratadine) stop my running nose and lessen the dark circles around the eyes?

Separate issues: Claritin (loratadine) is a reasonable anti-histamine and can be of assistance in attenuating your runny nose. It will have no effect on the dark circles around your eyes which is sometimes genetic but may have other causes. If the nose problem persists, see an otolaryngologist. An oculoplastic surgeon can deal with the dark circles. ...Read more

I took a Claritin (loratadine) this morning and 2 hours later no relief. Watery eyes, and that constant feeling I need to sneeze. Can I take anything else?

Nasal steroid: Nasal steroid is far more effective than antihistamine in relieving nasal symptoms but it does take a few days for it to give you optimal benefits. Nasal antihistamine , which requires a Rx, works much faster. If you don't get enough relief from both of the above, an allergy consult would be a good option. ...Read more

Remove the allergen: She may have perennial allergies to pets or dust mites. It would be best not to use systemic medication in such a young infant. Try to find out what her allergies are (have the older ones been tested?) and remove the allergen from the environment. ...Read more

Dry eyes. Prescribed Loratadine for sinus infection. Make eyes a lot drier. Can replace antihistamine with decongestant to control post nasal drip?

Hi, i've been taking cetrizine, loratadine and fexafenadine daily for a ? Allergic eczema, but still itchy, sore / red/ swollen eyes and mouth. Help

See allergist: It is time for you to consult an allergist since antihistamines alone are unlikely to solve your problem. Eczema requires regular use of moisturizer especially after bathing (due to a defect which leads to excessive loss of water from the skin) and patients with eczema often have staph on their skin making the eczema worse. It is time to see an allergist. Hydrocortisone cream may help the rash. ...Read more

I have horrible allergies right now (runny nose, itchy eyes, itchy throat) I took claritin (loratadine) & zyrtec they didn't work what do you suggest I try now?

Allergies: 21 year old lady with allergies unresponsive to OTC antihistamines. If blocking histamine has not worked, try using a nasal corticosteroid spray such as Flonase which you can buy over the counter. You should also try to avoid allergen triggers and visit a specialist in Rheumatology who can use an allergy panel to diagnose your specific allergy and possibly do immunotherapy. Good luck. ...Read more

I'm having severe itchy burning head from hair color allergy. Can I take two Loratadine tablets 10 milligram? One isn't helping very much

Worthless: there is no role for loratadine in treating this type of allergic reaction. A physician needs to evaluate the reaction and treat appropriately. If sure of the cause, the best otc medication would be topical hydrocortisone. Step 1, of course, is to rinse away the hair dye as much as possible. ...Read more

I have a 10 year old girl who has been taken loratadine for a week and now she says she that her head hurts can I give tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin?

Yes but: I suspect that her headache may be from nasal congestion which loratadine has no effect on. Consider trying a nasal steroid for a few days and see if this works better. Yes you can give her Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin but it will not be that effective if the nasal congestion is causing the problem. If no response to nasal steroid, see your doctor. ...Read more
