Antihistamine: Loratadine is a new generation antihistamine marketed as claritin (loratadine). While most patients do not experience significant side effects (usually very well tolerated), some people may have drowsiness (especially at higher than usual dose), dry mouth or headache. These side effects were similar to those taking placebo (sugar pill). ...Read more
Pretty rare: Drowsiness & fatigue are reported by ~2% of users. Headache, abdominal pain, sore throat, diarrhea have been reported. Rare but reported side-effects include liver damage, seizures, & low platelet counts. I have been in practice for 29 years and have occasionally seen drowsiness, headache and abdominal pain associated with Claritin (loratadine) but none of the others so far and its a very commonly used drug. ...Read more

One must be prudent in using any med that can affect the immune system to avoid adverse immune interactions. If I stop taking Claritin (loratadine) will the side effects go away overnight and by that I mean in a 24 hour period? Or will it take a couple of days for all the medicine to be out of my system?
How well tolerated is Claritin (loratadine) reditabs. Are there any serious side effects that would include breathing problems? How rare is it
Well tolerated: Claritin reditabs (loratadine) is an over-the-counter newer generation antihistamine that is usually very well tolerated. Difficulty breathing should not be a side effect of this medication and if it is, that would be unusually rare. Since Claritin is used to treat allergies and allergies frequently co-exist with asthma, it is always a good idea to consider the asthma diagnosis with your doctor. ...Read more
I was prescribed Loratadine for irritant dermatitis on chest. Are those pills safe-how often side effects appear from them? Is Benadryl (diphenhydramine) better?
Newer antihistamines are not anticholinergic. So why are side effects like constipation often reported for claritin (loratadine) for example?
Will side effects of loratadine like dry mouth and chest pain go away after 3 days of not using the loratadine?
I have had dry mouth and little chest pains side effects from loratadine for a day and a half, how long will it take for the side effects to leave?
8 hour half life: The half life is 8 hours, so within several days there should be hardly any active metabolites of this medicine in your system. Best wishes. ...Read more

Is it safe to take claritin-d every day? Are there long term side effects and what does pseudoephedrine interact with, if anything?
Allergies: In general, it it safe to take antihistamines everyday for allergies. Claritin-d includes the decongestant as you mentioned, and I tend to avoid that for people on a long term basis. It increases vasoconstriction and this has a variety of effects including more work for the heart and elevated blood pressure. There are other medications that can help with congestion. See ent/allergist. ...Read more
Can you take Xanax (alprazolam) Claritin and vistaril I'm med phobic bad afraid of side effects or dizziness but need to lower anxiety symptoms I stay lighheaded?
Not best combo: With higher degrees of anxiety I would recommend lexapro (escitalopram). Start at 10mg at night for couple weeks, then up to 20 mg nightly. Would not mix the combo u have. Drowsiness is the main issue. Would also recommend a clinical psychologist or License Clinical Social Worker to discuss and really have you get into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. ...Read more
Stomach pain and diarrhea. If I try claritin, (loratadine) is it possible that I may not get the same side effects?
Daughters face right side swollen for 4 wks now Drs can't find the problem On loratadine now for 4 days now swelling looks worse. Need advice?
After taking 2 days of Claritin (loratadine) d 24 hour then stopping how long can I expect the side effect to last. It stimulated my anxiety.
About 24 hours: Decongestants like the 'D' in this version of Claritin (loratadine) can have side effects like restlessness, increased heart rate and blood pressure. It's an extended release formula which helps it last 24 hrs. After that 24hrs, the last bit of the D to be released should be pretty much out of your system within another 24hrs. If having prolonged or worrisome symptoms, seek medical care. ...Read more

Musculoskeletal pain: In the chest wall, there are muscles, cartilage and bone, etc. When you have a cough, you can injure any of these structures. Injury includes muscle strain/sprain, cartilage inflammation and rib bruise or even fracture. All of these can be painful. The good news is, as the cough resolves, the injury will heal and the pain will resolve. If the cough worsens, see your doc for diagnosis/treatment. ...Read more

After taking loratadine and application of dermersone cream for mild eczema, red itchy spots appeared on my arms, legs, shoulders and back. After scratching, some of the spots burst and pus leaked out. Is this a side effect of the medicine or drug allergy
Possible infection: This sound more like a secondary infection of your eczema rather than a side effect of the medication. See your doctor. ...Read more

Discuss with OB: During your pregnancy- you should always ask your OB, before you take any medication-including otc drug. I accidentally took 2 loratadine 10 mg tablets and it says take once a day. Should I go to the doctors?
Sounds ok, but...: Some people try 2 loratadine (Claritin) per day because 1 per day did not help. The recommended dose is 1 per day, for use as an allergy medication. So, people who try 2 per day should go back to 1 per day if they did not see a big improvement when taking 2 per day. They should ask their doctors to confirm a diagnosis and ask which other medication can help, instead of taking 2 Claritin per day. ...Read more
I took carin loratadine 10mg for my cold this morning at 10 am. It is 2pm now and my cold got worse. Shld I take another tablet. Am an adult?
Better not: It's only 4 hours apart, and the regular dose is every 24 hours, more than that should be directed by a physician. For your cold symptoms you can try decongestants, if not contraindicated as if having high blood pressure, and pain killers as acetaminophen, in addition to rest fluids, salt water gargles and saline nasal washes, if no improvement, see your doctor, good luck ...Read more
Is there any risk of opportunistic diseases when taking Loratadine 30 mg/day regularly? I take 20 mg in morning, and 10 mg in evening when coughing.
Not helpful: Higher doses of Loratadine are probably not helpful. Cetirizine and fexofenadine are SIGNIFICANTLY stronger antihistamines than loratadine. See an ENT allergist or other allergist to talk about other medications, such as steroid nasal sprays and leukotriene inhibitors, allergy drops or shots. Cough with allergy is likely asthma, and an inhaler would be more helpful. ...Read more
I would like to ask about Claritin 12 hr vs. 24 hr Reditabs. It's seems the only difference is a doubling of the loratadine from 5 to 10 mg. Would not?
Not only this: Yes the dose is doubled, and so is the duration of action, to avoid side effects and less need for the drug to be in the system for long, 5mg reditabs are meant to be fast acting for a short duration. If a longer duration of action / prolonged course is needed the 10 mg preparation is better suited for that, beat wishes ...Read more
