See GI: Your symtpoms certainly sound chronic with issues since 16yo. Bleeding with bm is never normal, so it is recommended for you to see a GI dr. Loose stool: A chronically loose stool needs to be worked, up. You need stool studies and you may need to see a gastroeneterologist to help with diagnosis. Maybe IBS?: If the symptoms have been long term, they may be representative of irritable bowel syndrome. However, other problems must be ruled out before that diagnosis can be determined. If you have not already, I would increase the amount of fiber in your diet. If this does not help, I would return to your doctor, to see what the next step in the work up is. A small amount ok: I realize it is difficult to estimate "What is a small amount?" Helpful that you improved your constipation with diet, and that there is no blood. Also reassuring that it has been present for a "long time" with no other concerning symptoms. I would say that if it is more than a tablespoon per bowel movement, you should be evaluated. R/O IBS: IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. IUC/CROHNS DZ/IBD is inflammation usually DX by BX IBS SX can be managed .You need a full exam and blood work. Especially screen for H pylori .
