P in P: Castor oil needs to be digested in the small intestine before it can cause diarrhea. In the small intestine, castor oil becomes ricinoleic acid. This is what causes the diarrhea. Hence, castor oil placed on the scalp is less likely to be converted to ricinoleic acid and unlikely to be the cause of your loose stools.
