I have had thrush that won't go away since December. I have been on long term fluconazole, nystatin, and the lozenges. Nothing is working. What next?
A few possibilities: Presumably you're speaking of a vaginal yeast infection? Or maybe oral? 1) Confirm the diagnosis; many cases of apparent thrush are not, especially if oral. See doc if any doubt. 2) Make sure no underlying disease that predisposes to it, especially diabetes. 3) Assuming it's yeast, some are resistant to standard drugs. I will be on doxycycline and cefixime for two months. My doctor prescribed oral nystatin with this combo. Is it normal to take nystatin when on long-term antibiotics?
Oral thrush: Should be fairly rapid, assuming that your immune status is normal. Adults do not usually get thrush without some underlying problem. Took flagyl and levoquin for 10 days. Developed white coating on tongue. Been on nystatin for 8 days and tongue still white. How long till white gone?
Maybe a couple weeks: Coated tongue can be due to yeast or fungus, which can be triggered by broad spectrum antibiotics like the ones you took. However, most white coated tongues aren't due to fungus. Simply being ill or on antibiotics can do it. You should contact the doc who is treating you.
