Long Term Effects Of Keflex
Neither: Both antibiotics are effective bactericidal drugs. Keflex causes time dependent killing while Cipro (ciprofloxacin) causes concentration dependent killing. The 2 drugs have different antibacterial spectrums. In general Cipro (ciprofloxacin) has better activity against gram negative bacteria like pseudomonas while Keflex is more active against gram positive bacteria like staph. And strep. I'm on long term keflex for reocurring uti. They found staph in urine, now on 7 day course antibiotics (alprim) what's staph how did I get it??
May be contamination: Staphylococcus species are commonly found from the skin. It is possible that contamination of the urine sample occurred. However, if you are continuing to have infections proven by cultures, then an evaluation to rule out anatomic abnormalities is needed. This included imaging to make sure the kidneys/ureters are normal and a cystoscopy to ensure the bladder is normal. Talk to a urologist ...Read more
I'm on Alprim or Keflex for long term treatment for recurrent uti's. I usually have E. coli but sometimes staph?? I still get uti on my antibiotics!
Resistant UTI: Bacteria causing UTI vary widely in antibiotic susceptibility, and the more frequently UTIs recur or are treated, the higher the chance of an antibiotic-resistant infection. Resistance to both trimethoprim (Alrpim) and cephalexin (Keflex) isn't rare, especially after repeated treatmnt. You need a urine culture test with testing of the bug for the best antibiotic. See a doctor about it. Good luck! ...Read more
Was already taking Cipro (ciprofloxacin) long term for pseudomonas. Got sick (sore throat and ear infection). Today PCP prescribed Keflex. Should be ok?
Should be fine: The symptom pattern you describe can be caused by viruses or bacteria. It emerged in spite of the Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) so we know if it is a bacteria it is resistant to that med. The Keflex is a good basic med and can work when taken concurrently. If you don't see improvement within 3 days contact your PCP. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I'm taking keflex isit OK tohave a few beers. Today is my last day taking them...? How long should Iwait
Exercise caution: Alcohol, in general, is not the drug I would like to have on board if I have an infection - even low levels can impair our immune response, both in terms of white blood cells that gobble up bacteria and viruses, and the production of antibodies to kill the invaders. One or two beers is unlikely to cause many problems, but would keep in mind also that safe drinking is 1 beer/d in women, 2/day men. ...Read more
7-10 days: Antibiotics such as Keflex can work in 7-10 days sometimes shorter- it is important to complete the course of therapy prescribed for you in order to completely eradicate the infection. Symptoms often go away prior to completion- but take them all to avoid a repeat infection or a resistant infection which is much more difficult to treat. ...Read more

Here are some. ..: Most UTIs in females are uncomplicated and in lower urinary tract - bladder & urethra. If the offending bugs are sensitive to antibiotic, within 1-2 days, the treated patients should feel better and become symptom-free in 4-7 days but not always for few. If indeed UTI involves kidneys, the pattern of improvement is similar but take longer to completely go away and Rx should be x2 wks at least... ...Read more

Immidiately: Although certain antibiotics interact with birth control pills to render them less effective, Keflex is not really among those notorious for doing so.
