What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?

Not benzo's.: Hello - long term use of benzodiazapines can lead to tolerance. Marijuana can cause marked psychiatric problems in some people including anxiety, psychosis & paranoia. Paxil can be used long -term but most of my patients have experienced more side effects with it then from Lexapro & zoloft. I see you are on Lexapro -it has an excellent side effect profile. Buspar (buspirone) is very safe for long-term use. ...Read more

How long after being off 15mg of Buspar 3 times a day is it safe to have alcohol again? I've only been on it 12 days but was misdiagnosed and have been off for a day and a half.

Never: Alcohol is a poison and it never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Likely side effects: If there have been no other major changes for you and no other symptoms, the most likely cause is the dose increases of medication. It may go away with time at the same doses or a more gradual increase could prevent the issue. Sometimes going with one at a time instead of both avoids this and you never need the other change at all. Discuss with your doctor for further assistance. Good luck! ...Read more

Anxiety medication: I would consider an antidepressant that is also used for GAD. The SSRI's such as citalopram or sertraline are such examples. These medications help with longer-term anxiety management. I would also recommend finding a therapist if you don't have one already, as a therapist can help you develop tools and skills to manage anxiety as a supplement to any medications you may take. ...Read more
