How long does Ampicillin stay in your system/how long does it continue working after you stop taking it?
Complex, contact doc: Prostatitis and painful ejaculation are complex. Maybe STD or seminal vesiculitis instead. Most prostatitis isn't bacterial and no antibiotic helps. For known bacterial infection, ampicillin is not a common drug, not active against many urinary bacteria. If you are self treating, stop the drug and get professional care. If under doc's care, contact the office about duration of Rx and next steps. ...Read more
Can gram negative folliculitus be cured? How long is it safe to take ampicillin for this? Likelihood of ampicillin curing GNF? Thanks!
Folliculitis: Can be cured with antibiotics, but it can recur. It is usually due to gram positive bacteria (Staphlococci), however, if you are certain that this one is due to gram negative bacteria (by culture), then ampicillin is not the best antibiotic. The physician needs to select an antibiotic that works well for gram negative organisms ...Read more
Will it work to take another week of ampicillin (500 mg) to cure a 2-month long vaginal E. faecalis infection if a 7-day course has had no effect yet?

Your MD should do a vaginal swab for a culture and sensitivity lab specimen to see what the most effective drug to treat the problem is rather than continue to "guess" what might work. Make an appointment with the original MD who gave you the ampicillin and get re-treated as this bacteria comes from the stool. ...Read more

You have quite a lot of stresses on your body & it will take at least 24 hours for the antibiotics to start having any effect. However, it also depends upon your body's health & ability to deal with the infection along with the severity of the infections. Antibiotics alone will not solve the problem. Each tooth requires treatment! ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

It works if indicate: We do not use Ampicillin these days as it has to be taken 4 times a day. So we use Amoxicillin which can be taken only twice a day. It takes three weeks to see positive effect, and three months to see full effect. But long term use can cause bacterial resistance. It should be used with local therapy with benzyl peroxide and retinoids locally, and can be followed with topical antibiotics. ...Read more
Talk to your doctor: This depends on why are you apprehensive to take it, and why you have been prescribed it. Antibiotics can cause serious side effects but are sometimes quite necessary. However, antibiotics are also over-prescribed and at times are given when not really indicated. Taking probiotics often lessens the negative effects. Please discuss your concerns with your doctor or seek a second opinion about this. ...Read more
Read Instructions: Depends on the bacteria being treated, and its sensitivity to the antibiotic. This was likely taken into account when the medication was prescribed. I would not recommend you try to treat pneumonia without physician guidance.
