Can withdrawal from ssri, benzodiazepine, and antipsychotic create insomnia for over four weeks? Does medication make a condition worse than ever befo
Yes: Sleep can be a fragile venture, so withdrawal from these potent psychoactive agents can certainly disrupt it. Someone thought you needed to be on these meds, so the underlying condition could also be contributing to your insomnia. Ssri withdrawal is very uncomfortable, but temporary (so it might feel worse than your original condition). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have severe anxiety with psychosis, depression. Psychotherapy hasn't worked for me so I have resorted to taking benzodiazepines and other medication?
I have a friend who is getting a new job and is worried because she takes the medication Zoloft and we have readt that it can show up in a urinalysis as a benzodiazepines but she has her prescription for the zoloft so she can show the nurse
Zoloft (sertraline) and related: medications are used by millions of people today. I don't agree that they are so widely used and prefer cognitive behavioral therapy but that's another matter. Your friend will likely have no problem because of how many folks are on Zoloft (sertraline). Peace and good health. ...Read more
Do psychiatrists prescribe benzodiazepines with Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) or just ADHD stimulant medications?
Benzos and ADHD: This is not a usual combination. Benzodiazepines are antianxiety medications and may cause sedation countering the effect of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). If anxiety complicated your adhd or is contributed to by adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine), considering an alternative to Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) should be discussed with your prescriber. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Benzos aren't a cure: I agree with dr. Ali. Benzodiazapines numb you to your anxiety but they don't address the underlying cause. They can also be very addicting. A selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor would be a class of medication that could help with the underlying neurochemical problems but psychotherapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy would actually start to give you control. Look into deep breathing ex ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Addiction: Benzodiazepines and opiates are different types of drugs, and act by different mechanisms on the body. But they are both habituating. Susceptible people may also use both in an addictive way: using more than intended, developing tolerance, and continuing to use despite adverse effects on relationships, work, and health. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes, but: Be careful because the eugeroic (wakefulness promoting drugs) can increase diazepam levels to some degree, so you will have to probably decrease your valium dose under the supervision of your sleep doctor or psychiatrist, until you find the dose that you tolerate without it making you excessively sedated. Be careful driving and operating machinery. ...Read more

How long does Paxil (paroxetine) take to have a therapeutic effect? Why does it not work instantaneously, like benzodiazepines?
4-8 weeks: It takes about 4 to 8 weeks to see the full effects of a particular dose of paxil (paroxetine). This is because the immediate Paxil (paroxetine) effects of increasing serotonin levels in the areas that connect brain cells (synapses) are not correlated with changes in mood or anxiety; instead, receptor changes and nerve growth factors stimulated by weeks of elevated serotonin seem to be. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
