On Lo Loestrin Fe. Started new cycle and took first pill of new pack at 3:30PM instead of the usual 10:30PM. Am I protected? It's my second pack.

Yes: As long as you take it every day, then you are protected. If you miss a dose, take two the next day. It is ideal for you to take it the same time every day so it can mimic an appropriate hormonal cycle. Try setting an alarm on your phone. Take care! ...Read more

Lo Loestrin FE. Want to change the time I take pill. Starting a new pack today. Can I take my pill 3:30PM instead of 10:30PM and still be protected?

Lo Loestrin FE. Want to change the time I take pill. Starting a new pack today. Can I take my pill 3:30PM instead of 10:30PM and still be protected?

BCP timing: If you are taking the pill earlier than usual, you will be protected. If the pill is taken longer than 24 hrs (especially extreme low dose pills like LoLoestrin), I would use back up like condoms for the remainder of the cycle and continue at the new time. ...Read more

I'm taking lo loestrin fe and I accidentally dropped the first white active pill down the drain. What do I do now?

It is alright.: Do not panic. This is a common mistake. You should contact your doctor and he/she can rewrite a prescription for you which you can pick up at your local pharmacy. Another option would be to go directly to the pharmacy where you picked up the medication and they may be able to replace it for you. Hope that helps. ...Read more

How is it that Lo Loestrin Fe can work with only 2 placebo pills compared to the normal 7 days of placebo pills?

How is it that Lo Loestrin Fe can work with only 2 placebo pills compared to the normal 7 days of placebo pills?

Not important: The placebo pills do not play any role in efficacy of ocp's. As long as you take the active ones, you can take any number or no placebo pills and the pills are equally effective. The role of the extra two estrogen pills is to shorten the amount of bleeding you have on the current pill you are on. ...Read more

If I take 2 lo loestrin fe pills a day. Will this stop my heavy bleeding? Once it stop do I go back to taking one pill a day?

If I take 2 lo loestrin fe pills a day. Will this stop my heavy bleeding? Once it stop do I go back to taking one pill a day?

Bleeding and iron: You should see a gynecologist to find out why you have your heavy bleeding. Iron will replace the iron you are losing in your red blood cells lost in your bleeding. See a gyn to see if you have a hormonal imbalance, or bleeding from fibroids. Iron will have no effect on the cause of your bleeding nor will it stop it. ...Read more

Took first pill of Lo Loestrin FE an hour late, still protected? Took all last pack as directed and got period at the end of last pack

Sounds fine: There is no noticeable difference in the level of protection whether a woman takes her Lo Loestrin at the exact clock hour each day, or takes her pill an hour sooner or an hour later. Lo Loestrin is a combination birth control pill. Combination pills are less time-sensitive than progestin-only mini-pills. For a combination pill, taking it within 2-3 hours of the desired time should still be fine. ...Read more

Why is it that on Lo Loestrin Fe it's safe to skip the estrogen pills and take 4 days off, but it's not safe to take them followed by 4 days off?

Why is it that on Lo Loestrin Fe it's safe to skip the estrogen pills and take 4 days off, but it's not safe to take them followed by 4 days off?

Don't do that: That is not correct that is is ok to skip the last four in either scenario you suggested with this particular pill. This is an ultra low dose pill. Only two of the last four have Estrogen. They are designed to be taken as directed. With low low dose pills there is not much room for error. Consider an IUD as a more effective alternative if you do not like taking the pill daily. ...Read more

Why does Lo Loestrin Fe have only 2 placebos in a 28-day cycle but other BC pills have 4 or 7? Can I take more than 2 days off and remain protected?

I wouldn't: LoLoestrin is the lowest does pill on the market and I would prefer someone skip the 2 placebos and just open up a new pack and start 2 days early. The lower dose pills are great for women near the age of menopause and those who can't tolerate higher doses of estrogen. Delaying the next pack would increase the pregnancy rate seen with this pill. ...Read more

I take Lo Loestrin Fe and my period has started early, I only just took the first pill in the last row, normal?

Not concerning: If you are on the last week of your pills, then it is normal for your period to start at this time. If you have break through bleeding (bleeding between periods), or if your periods begin earlier with each pack of pills, you may need to change to a different type of birth control pills. ...Read more

25 years old and on the last four pills of lo loestrin fe. Have had my period for 13 days. When will it stop or how can I stop it?

Not normal, see Dr.: Generally, if you are taking your pills every day, your natural hormones are blocked. The last week of pills has no hormones, which triggers a period. If you started bleeding in the middle of your pills, the dosage may need to be adjusted to be right for your body. Stop your pills, use precautions to avoid pregnancy (foam & condoms), and see your gynecologist. Good luck! ...Read more

Took 16 active Lo Loestrin Fe pills; started 2nd day of cycle. Used condom but possible spill from base while pulling out on 16th day. Am I protected?

No: If this was your very first time taking the pill, the answer is no. Typically you need to use a backup method such as condom for first three months on any birth control pill because you may still ovulate as your body is getting used to the hormonal adjustment. When you have a spillage, it increases the chance of sperm reaching your egg. ...Read more

Does it only take a week for lo loestrin fe birth control pills to start working?

Does it only take a week for lo loestrin fe birth control pills to start working?

When?: You should have been instructed when to start taking the BCP's to get in sync with your normal cycle. The way it works is that it fools your body into thinking it is pregnant and thus doesn't release an egg. Voila! You don't get pregnant. That is why it is very important not to skip a pill. ...Read more

I have been on lo loestrin fe for over a month and just finished my period. My boyfriend came inside me should I take the day after pill?

Not if took pills: If you took all of your months birth control pills an didn't miss a day, there's no reason to take a morning after pill. If you just finished your period, you are on day 5 or so of your new pack? You can definitely get pregnant during the week of your menstruation, so just the fact of bleeding doesn't protect you from pregnancy. If you've missed pills, definitely take morning after pill asap! ...Read more

Took my bc pills as a form of Plan B (lo loestrin fe, 4 pills, 12 hours apart, pills m-th). How do I continue to take my birth control? Today is mon.

One per day: You should continue taking your pill one per day as you normally would. I am confused though. If you were already on birth control then there was no need to take Plan B or a form of emergency contraception. That is what birth control is for. Also you did not do the correct dose since you are on a 10 mg birth control pill. You underdosed. Its best to consult with a doctor before doing things alone. ...Read more

Started taking lo loestrin fe a while ago took my two active pills no period and now this morning. Only when I whip im bleeding pink brown and red?

Lo Loestrin: The goal of many of the low dose oral contraceptives is to have lighter flow for shorter periods of time. If you are taking your pills correctly, the fear of pregnancy should not be one you have. The lighter flow and fewer numbers of days of bleeding is a goal, not a liability. ...Read more

Started Lo Loestrin Fe in May, periods 1st 2 packs, in June took plan b on top of pill, missed last week in Oct., no period since June, is this ok?

Maybe: Do you remember to take your pills every day? If not, check a pregnancy test. If you do remember, an unexpected pregnancy is much less likely. I tell my patients on Lo loestrin Fe that approximately 30% of women will stop having menses on this pill. Hope this helps! ...Read more

On Lo Loestrin FE (this is my 6th pack)& lately have been spotting about every 2 wks & getting period on active pills Could this dose be too low for me?

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

I presume she had a: Pregnancy test done. If she's not pregnant, then the absence of period is due to hormonal imbalance related to contraceptive use which is not uncommon. She needs to see her GYN for check up and to calm your anxieties. Take care!
