What are the chances of getting HSV 2 if one already has HSV 1?

What are the chances of getting HSV 2 if one already has HSV 1?

Herpes virus: Herpes virus type 1 (hsv 1) causes upper respiratory infections, usually manifest as "cold sores", which can spread to the skin. Herpes virus type 2 is a sexually transmitted infection that occurs only in the genital region usually manifesting as a single tender blister or a group (cluster) of tender vesicles on top of red inflammed skin. Hsv1 does not lead to hsv2 infections. Only sex does. ...Read more

My husband & I were both diagnosed with HSV 1 he has never had an outbreak had one genitally. Is there a way to tell which of us is was the carrier?

My husband & I were both diagnosed with HSV 1 he has never had an outbreak had one genitally. Is there a way to tell which of us is was the carrier?

No, not really: Hsv 1 is considered universally present, in most of the adult population, so there isn't much desire or need to test it further. In a research setting, each person (of a couple) would have to have his/her hsv-1 strain (sub-typed) identified, etc., etc... But, it gets too scientific, too complicated. ...Read more

HSV-1 & HSV-2 if in the oral area looks a like or their is any diference between one type of blisters and the other?

HSV-1 & HSV-2 if in the oral area looks a like or their is any diference between one type of blisters and the other?

No difference: There is no difference at all. Genital HSV2 infection usually causes more frequent outbreaks and asymptomatic viral shedding than either oral or genital HSV1, and therefore genital HSV2 is more frequently transmitted to exposed persons. But there are no differences in the symptoms, appearance of lesions, or severity of outbreaks from either virus, whether oral or genital. ...Read more

If I have a one week breakout of herpes are the chances that it's hsv 1 on the genitals?

If I have a one week breakout of herpes are the chances that it's hsv 1 on the genitals?

Some chance: Most herpes in this area is type 2. Sometimes type 1 is transmitted by oral contact. Most people already have type 1 but do not experience any symptoms. If you already have type 1, then a new infection must be type 2. You should have been given an oral therapy at the start 1 week ago. You can be tested to determine if you have hsv1 or 2 or both. You should see a Dr for expert advise about herpes a ...Read more

How long does HSV (1) survive on a finger. For example One touches an oral blister that has not yet opened then accidentally touched another area.

It doesn't matter...: ...how long the virus can survive. In HSV infection present for more than a few months, autoinoculation (self transmission to a new part of the body) almost never occurs, except rarely to an eye. The immune system prevents it. Use common sense hygiene (hand washing, alchohol gel) but no need to be compulsive about it or worry about transmitting oral herpes to, say, the genital area. ...Read more

If me and my lover both have hsv-1, and I have a cold sore (she doesn't), will the skin-to-skin contact with the sore gaurentee that she will get one?

Stop worrying: You've both met the virus and won't infect each other. Her contacting your sore won't cause hers to flare. Further, a physician can keep these at bay with medication. And fear of fever blisters is no reason not to kiss. Cherish your being together. ...Read more

I contracted herpes hsv 1 from a sexworker 17 years back. After the sex I develop small bumps one head of the penis which itches. For last two years?

Details matter: Hsv 1 on face??? or genital? How do you know the source? Was it cultured? Treated? Now you have something else not related to hsv. A clue is "after the sex"........what kind of sex? Condom? Lubricant or other material used by either participant? Since it appears only after sex it is not related to foreskin. Consider an irritation or allergy related to something used during sex or used by another p ...Read more

Can having hsv-1 cause blisters on feet? One foot? Or are the blisters caused by my shoes?

Can having hsv-1 cause blisters on feet? One foot? Or are the blisters caused by my shoes?

Not herpes: Although it is possible to get herpes lesions on other parts of the body (called herpes gladiatorum), it is rare and is v. unlikely in your case. Most probably you're body is reacting to the ill-fitting shoes. I would definitely stop wearing the shoes entirely and try to minimize any activity that makes the feet hurt. You need to rest and recover first. Keep off the feet and protect the blisters. ...Read more

Got hsv-1 gential at 18 years old. I had one outbreak the first year and have had 6 since- I'm 32 now. The only confirmed outbreak was when I was pregnant and it was one lesion on the anus. Is this many outbreaks normal for genital hsv-1?

Yes: Yes, this is considered the normal pattern for HSV-1. What we generally see is that the outbreaks decrease in frequency over time after the first 12-18 months. From my experience, there's a lot of variability but generally speaking, a lot of people will still get outbreaks once a year, commonly as a result of high stress or an unrelated cold. Hope this helps ...Read more

Hsv 1 testing got 3.69 what can I do?

Oral type, common: Your test sample showed evidence of Herpes type 1 in your system. It's very common. Usually, symptoms are oral - canker sores, fever blisters on lips or in mouth but it can appear less often in other places. Powerful prescription medications can end an outbreak fairly quickly, and there are milder OTCs (less side effects). It's very contagious during outbreak. Don't share utensils or kiss during. ...Read more

Positive for HSV 1 & 2, what does this mean?

HSV Types: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) can be type-1 (above the wist) or type -2 (below the waist). The former presents as coldsores or mouth ulcerations. The latter as genital herpes or sores - penile or vulvar. These are passed from person to person and are permanent, but can be treated if active or suppressed - so as not to pass them on to a partner. Treatment is with forms of acyclovir. ...Read more

Can I get this result translated HSV 1 test with a high index of 32?

Does not add up: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the statement you provided is not a typical lab result. The laboratory should also provide a reference range. You should talk to the doctor who ordered the test.

I found out over a yr ago I have HSV 1 and 2. My boyfriend still test neg for it... How can that be?

Immune /carrier: Herpes simplex virus 1 & 2, also known as human herpes virus 1 & 2 (hhv-1 & -2), are members of the herpes virus family, herpesviridae, that infect humans. Hsv-1 (which produces most cold sores) and hsv-2 (which produces most genital herpes) are ubiquitous and contagious. They are spread when an infected person is producing and shedding the virus.

Is HSV 1 an std?

Can be, usually not: HSV1 primarily causes oral herpes, almost always acquired nonsexually, often in childhood. Most are asymptomatic, with no actual outbreaks of cold sores etc. However, oral sex by someone with oral HSV1 can transmit it to a partner's genitals. In that context, it's an STD. But the large majority of infections are not sexually acquired. ...Read more
