my blood test showed abnormal liver enzymes and elevated pancreatic enzymes. Hepatitis negative. I don't drink alcohol. Ultrasound and CT negative. ?
Other causes: Amylase, Lipase and liver enzymes can be elevate, due many other reasons such as acute cholecystitis, biliary sludge, chronic pancreatitis or even drug induced. Imaging does not necessarily pick up small gallstones or biliary sludge. Also, clinical symptoms need to be correlated with your lab work to narrow down the diagnosis. Are you having jaundice, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramps, etc? ...Read more

Blood test results showed elevated liver enzymes and elevated kidney function. What does this mean?
Need for evaluation: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking a history, physical examination, looking at the actual lab results and may be additional studies. Lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is in the best position to do that. ...Read more
Bili ALT AST elevated on off for a yr.other labs normal high rdw. Hep viruses autoimmune disease neg . Ct fatty liver US 6 mth later nothin cirrhosis?
Depends on biopsy: Cirrhosis can only be truly proven by a liver biopsy. Certain lab tests, such as bilirubin, INR, albumin, and platelets are often used as surrogate markers of liver function, and are an indirect estimator/predictor of cirrhosis. Additionally, imaging such as ultrasound or CT can suggest cirrhosis. But again, a biopsy is technically needed to prove the diagnosis of cirrhosis. ...Read more

Sir which high enzyme levels indicate significant liver damage due to alcohol? GGT levels or SGPT or SGOT levels..
SGOT / SGPT: These are better markers for damage. SGPT 38, SGOT 28 are not concerning though they're higher than most young men's. Some men run a high GGT even if they don't drink and this shouldn't be taken as proving anything. If you're drinking daily, this might be a good time to cut way back -- who really needs to be doing this? ...Read more
Calprotectin 95, ALT & AST chronically fluctuating elevated, sigmoidoscopy normal,MRCP normal, could it be IBD causing elevated liver enzyme ?
IBD complication AIH: The calprotectin level (I'm assuming it's a stool test) is rather high 4 ur age (normal is less than 51 ug/g stool), which seems confirm IBD but unfortunately didn't spare u a sigmoidoscopy. Caveat: proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec falsely elevate calprotectin. Nonetheless, a common complication of IBD is autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) which can cause fluctuating liver enzymes & damage. TTY GI do ...Read more
Will Valium and alcohol affect your alk phos, AST and ALT levels when a liver function test is performed. Alkphos29, alt110, ast38 bilirubin dir 0.4?
Liver function tests: Although valium is metabolized by the liver, it does not increase or decrease liver enzyme activity. Alcohol, on the other hand, depending on the amount consumed & frequency of consumption, can significantly elevate liver enzyme levels to a lesser or greater degree. Your alt is about 4 x normal; ast & direct bilirubin r minimally elevated; alk phos is ok. Tylenol (acetaminophen) can also affect liver enzymes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
