What can ido if bloodwork shows marked polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia?? I don't have apt with liver specialist until june...

Best thing to do is-: Nothing until you have a diagnosis. Polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia is non specific and simply indicates the immune system is activated. This is normal with many infectious and inflammatory diseases. It does not need to be treated per se and bears little relationship to the severity of the underlying disease. It will resolve when the underlying disease resolves. ...Read more

Fatty tissue found on live found via ultrasound at ER on tuesday, enlarged liver and no health insurance. Can I wait to see a specialist?

Fatty tissue found on live found via ultrasound at ER on tuesday, enlarged liver and no health insurance. Can I wait to see a specialist?

Yes: I'd start with a good general physical and lab evaluation by a primary doctor. Steatosis, or fatty infiltration of the liver, can be seen in people who are overweight, are diabetic, or have high cholesterol/triglycerides. You may not need anything more than a weight loss program or management of your cholesterol. Start at the beginning, and don't panic. Good luck. ...Read more

Best probiotic for ibs? Also do probiotics affect the liver for the good too? Alt^, no cause determined. ;extensive tests, waiting for specialist help.

"best" probiotics: Like all the newest, latest, and greatest highly touted "natural" medications, probiotics have become very popular. However, none have been shown in independent testing to be of any efficacy for a "normal" bowel, let alone one with inflammatory symptoms. You should first obtain a diagnosis--as "ibs" is not a diagnosis at all--rather than self medicating. Good luck. ...Read more

Liver is in Trouble: First the doctor would have you stop all products toxic to the liver. They would also test you for various infections and other things known to cause liver trouble. They should advise you to never use any product with tylenol (acetaminophen) or Acetaminophen again and to stop any alcohol you may be using. ...Read more

They can do an ultrasound and blood work f/u/ w/ ER ...Read more

My liver enzymes have been running about 120. My doctor is considering sending me to a GI specialist what causes liver enzymes to run high?

Which enzymes: There are several different liver enzymes. From your post I can't tell which ones are elevated. However, there are many reasons for liver enzymes to go up. Some of the causes can be from infections, drugs (legal and illegal), cancer, alcohol use, etc. If your doctor recommends seeing a liver specialist, you should schedule an appointment with one. ...Read more

Maybe: You'll want to rule out hepatitis B and C, Wilson's (unlikely with these low levels at your age but not to be missed), early hemochromatosis, and autoimmune hepatitis. Non-alcoholic fatty liver is mostly hereditary and should be sought as well. Stay proactive. ...Read more
