How can I self examine myself to see if my liver is enlarged... I'm 19, and I'm scared I might have hepatitis ?

Not possible: Sorry, but there is an abdominal muscle reflex that makes it highly unlikely that you will be able to feel your own liver. I do applaud the effort, though. Hepatitis will cause liver damage. If symptomatic, you may notice yellowing of the skin and mucus membranes, abdominal pain and maybe water retention or poor blood clotting. How does hepatitis affect my liver?

Inflammation: The causes of hepatitis are several, but i'm assuming you mean to discuss viral hepatitis. If I had hepatitis a when young and get another hepatitis later, will my liver be able to handle it and heal?

If I had hepatitis a when young and get another hepatitis later, will my liver be able to handle it and heal?

It should: Hepatitis a is a self limited disease meaning that your liver was infected and cleared the virus without any long-lasting bad effects. A second liver virus should be infecting a healthy liver. That being said, acute hepatitis b or c can be very dangerous (more b then c). I actually worry more about the other scenario, a pt with hep b or c getting hep a later in life. These pts need vaccinations! ...Read more
