Can a pancreatic mass cause inflammation in the gallbladder without affecting the liver until a later stage?
This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more
8 months ago I had my GB removed and a u/s showed NO liver mass. Yesterday, I had a u/s which is now showing a small liver mass.. What could this be?
Unclear Question: If I understand your question correctly, you have a mass in your liver(?). Your concern is if it is Cancer. Not all liver masses are cancerous but only a proper evaluation by your doctor can find the exact nature of this mass. This requires a physical examination and may require having several tests and X`-Rays and sometimes, a biopsy to find out the exact nature of this mass. ...Read more
The most common: liver masses, cysts and benign hemangiomas, generally do not cause any abnormal bloodwork. Liver cancers may cause abnormally elevated alpha fetoprotein(AFP) levels in the blood. Large masses and masses "strategically" located(for example compressing the bile duct) may result in elevated bilirubin or other hepatic function test abnormalities. ...Read more
Ultrasound for liver says liver echogenicity appears somewhat coarsened and inhomogeneous but no focal liver mass is evidnet?
Sweet smelling urine and having a liver mass concerning? I am a 24 year old female. For the last 4 days, I have been on a daniel's fast but my urine has a sweet smell for the last 36 hours. I also have a mass in my liver and am having pain on my right upp
Hello. : Hello. I just reviewed daniels’ diet in order to answer your question. If one ate a preponderance of fruit, it could raise blood sugar levels significantly. If there is any diabetic predisposition, then it could cause urine to be spilled in the urine. People with uncontrolled diabetes can have sweet smelling urine. It can occur in reaction to medications, metabolism of certain foods. There is also a rare cause called mapple syrup urine disorder which is a neurologic condition that affects infants and children. The other thing to be aware of, is that your body may be detoxifying as the result of this diet. This can allow the release of stored toxins and free radicals. I don't know why you have a liver mass. Issues involving the gallbladder and bladder can sometimes radiate to the back. I think you would need to talk to your doctor to see if this is concerning or not; because there are lot of different factors in the scenario that you present with. Take care. ...Read more
Incomplete workup: Assuming this was an unexpected finding in a ct done for another purpose (i would guess to evaluate for pulmonary embolism), the ct technique was not optimal to evaluate for liver lesions. Given your age, the liver lesion is probably benign, but requires further workup. Please contact your doctor for an imaging plan. Liver ultrasound could be first, but multiphase ct or MRI may be required. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it a bad sign that they could see a liver mass on CT even without contrast? I have read most are missed when contrast isn't used.
2 yrs ago found 2cm liver mass. 3 tiny lungnodules and 3tiny brain lesions. All stable since found. Drs say not related. is this cancer? Next step?
Possibly unrelated: If a lesion of liver found especially in presence of 3 small lung lesions, dx should have been determined by needle bx of liver under sono guidance and if positive then PET/CAT to see any association of liver, lung, brain. If no change after 2 yrs bx might still be indicated because of unusual presentation, but probably benign ...Read more
5cm solid liver mass seen on us but not on ct. Can a mass this size be missed? Should i ask for a bx?
Liver mass...: Did they use IV contrast on ct or was it a noncontrast ct? There are several different imaging modalities which can help characterize liver mass before biopsy. Is AFP included on a complete metabolic panel? Or is a separate blood test? Is AFP elevated for liver cancer only or any type of liver mass?
AFP not on CMP: Hi. No, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is not on a comprehencive metabolic panel (CMP). AFP can be run on same tube if sample size is adequate, but it is a completely separate test. AFP elevation is NOT specific for liver cancer, and can be seen in other liver diseases and other cancers. Good luck! ...Read more
Ill defined hypodense area on right hepatic lobe abutting capsule. Found on a no contrast CT. Need repeat CT w liver mass protocol. I'm scared.
No contrast CT showed ill defined hypodense area on hepatic lobe. Ordered new CT w contrast w liver mass protocol not hemangioma protocol concerning?
Get iv contrast CT: There are many reasons to have a liver mass, more often than not, they are benign, but clearly depending on past medical history, It is difficult without contrast to differentiate these lesions, there are various ways to give intravenous contrast. A hemangioma protocol is also known as a triphasic study, allows one to look at three phases of liver perfusion but more complex to do. ...Read more
2cm liver mass, tiny lung nodules, tiny brain lesions. Found 2 1/2 yrs ago and still stable. Dr's say unrelated, but No biopsies. Please help.
Focal nodular: hyperplasia is a benign liver lesion, and unrelated to lung nodules or brain lesions. Tiny lung nodules in an average risk patient that are stable for 2 1/2 years can be considered benign. No way to opine about the brain lesions without more info, but stability over 2 1/2 years likely also indicates benignity. ...Read more
