Liver (Definition)

This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more

Can intense physical activity such as training for a triathlon cause an increase in both AST and ALT in liver function test?

Can intense physical activity such as training for a triathlon cause an increase in both AST and ALT in liver function test?

ALT and AST: Both these enzyme also might be released from muscle cell which might happen with heavy exertion. I remember the days that high ast was considered to be checked in patient suspected of heart attack, which is damage to heart muscle and release of this enzyme to blood. Bottom line is ast, alt are not specific for liver. ...Read more

Liver function test results: GGT 90 U/l. All other indicators including Bilubrin, ALT, AST, Proteins etc are well in normal range Please advise on GGT?

GGT: The GGT level, when elevated with all of the rest of the liver tests being completely normal, is usually nonspecific and does not necessarily mean that liver disease is present. All I would do initially is repeat those tests in 2 to 3 months. If it is still elevated, you should consider seeing a gastroenterologist just to be sure that nothing is wrong. Good luck. ...Read more

Took 1 Arcoxia 90mg 3 days before liver function test. AST, ALT, etc all normal except GGT 124. Can Arcoxia 3 days before test be the cause ?

Probably not!: While all drugs can be hepatotoxic, the insult t liver cells (hepatocytes) will elevate SGOT and SGPT, SGPT usually first. SGOT comes from muscle as well;. SGPT only liver. GGT comes from the biliary tree, gallbladder and connective tissue of the liver, frequently indicating gall bladder issues. I suppose it CAN happen, but this would be exceedingly rare. ...Read more

Will Valium and alcohol affect your alk phos, AST and ALT levels when a liver function test is performed. Alkphos29, alt110, ast38 bilirubin dir 0.4?

Will Valium and alcohol affect your alk phos, AST and ALT levels when a liver function test is performed. Alkphos29, alt110, ast38 bilirubin dir 0.4?

Liver function tests: Although valium is metabolized by the liver, it does not increase or decrease liver enzyme activity. Alcohol, on the other hand, depending on the amount consumed & frequency of consumption, can significantly elevate liver enzyme levels to a lesser or greater degree. Your alt is about 4 x normal; ast & direct bilirubin r minimally elevated; alk phos is ok. Tylenol (acetaminophen) can also affect liver enzymes. ...Read more

What could low ceruloplasmin in the event of normal liver function test results mean? normal bili/albumin/inr/alt/ast/ggt but low ceruloplasmin

How low?: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthy folks have any given value out of range at one end or the other. Without elevated ALT/AST, Wilson's is unlikely. Some folks genetically run a low ceruloplasmin and it means nothing. ...Read more

What is sgpt and sgot in liver function test ?

What is sgpt and sgot in liver function test ?

Two enzymes: If they're high in the blood, they've often leaked from injured liver cells. They're not dangerous by themselves, but they mean the cause needs to be found. Alcohol, meds, hepatitis, hemochromatosis and wilson's will be ruled in / out, but perhaps the most common cause in the us today is simply lack of exercise. ...Read more

Need sgpt to sgot ratios details in liver function test my sgot to sgpt ratio is 66/139 = 0.47 what does it mean?

Not much: AST=SGOT, ALT=SGPT It is not the ratio that is such an issue. Elevation liver enzymes indicated injury to liver cells. You enzyme levels are not too high and can be explained chronic panceatitis. If SGOT were higher than SGPT that would have indicated more serious damage. In my liver function test A.L.T (S.G.P.T) is 140 IU/L And A.S.T (SGOT) is 66 Normal range is 40. What does it mean am 19 and patient of pancreatiti?

Hepatitis: By definition is inflammation of the liver. Elevated AST and ALT are markers of inflammation and can be caused by many different things like: medications, alcohol, infections (hepatitis A, B, C), underlying liver disease, gall bladder disease, and can be associated with autoimmune diseases and even pancreatitis. Understanding the cause of you pancreatitis will likely explain your hepatitis. ...Read more

What to do if I have been detected for heaptitis b-positive liver function test results sgot- 94 u/l and sgpt 187 u/l?

See your doctor.: Those results are positive for inflammation of the liver. Talk with your doctor about what the positive means for Hep B as sometimes the test done is for antibodies. There are antiviral therapies that one can discuss with their doctor if a patient has an active hepatitis B infection. A liver biopsy is also a possibility depending on symptoms/ history of disease. ...Read more

Your liver function : Are basically normal, but you probably have Gilbert's syndrome which is harmless but elevates bilirubin. It is not the cause of not gaining weight. I assume your other bloodwork is all normal? Then it is a matter of needing more calories in than you burn . Liver Function (Definition)

The liver is "life". The liver not only creates essential proteins and energy resources, but it also "detoxifies" the body through creation of elements like bilirubin while additionally breaking down a vast variety of chemicals (medications, toxins, etc.). The medical industry tests the "function" of the liver via a "liver function panel". This test looks at liver ...Read more
