Is it ok to take 300mg x 3 cod liver oil tablets a day as a source of dha, epa and omega3? Any side effects? Benefits significant?
Unknown: Cod liver oil and other fish oil supplements are fairly good sources of o3fa of which dha and epa are two types. The exact dietary requirements are unknown. Se's are uncommon but some preps may contain contaminants. There are a lot of purported benefits to o3fa and dha in particular but they are still unsubstantiated. My advice would be to eat more fish on a regular basis and skip the supplements. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is it safe for me to use vimax detox? I just ordered it from net and now I want to know about its side effects
Waste of $$: No one can tell you if this product is safe. It has not been evaluated by the fda. It has never been studied in humans. Their website references a poor quality study from japan in mice using one of the ingredients. The product is made of various over-the-counter laxatives like senna and psyllium (metamucil), which cost a few dollars, except they get the pleasure of charging you $75/mo! Rip off. ...Read more
Relates to beliefs: There are many claims made that certain teas can 'detoxify' and cleanse various organs of the body. There is no well done research that confirms or denies this. So, it really comes down to one's belief about whether or not something will help them feel healthier. Trust in the source of info can go a lot further than the product itself. I'm not aware of any significant side effects of teas. ...Read more
Is 3000 mg of garlic too much? I am cleansing my liver but I want to make sure it will have no side effects.
Liver cleansing???: How do you know your liver needs cleansing? And what about all the rest of us who don't "cleanse" our livers? Cleansing your liver is like cleansing your colon--neither is necessary and there is no valid medical basis for either. That much garlic is probably not a problem (emphasis on probably), but cleansing your liver is definitely not needed (emphasis on definitely)! you're young and healthy! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends: The commonly used antibiotics do not cause organ damage but the dose may need be adjusted if the particular organ has been impaired. If gb is removed for a 21 yrs girl, will the liver compensate? Will there be any other complications/side effects? Please elucidate.
GB stores, not make: Bile is made in liver, stored in gb, travels down ducts into small bowel. Bile is a digestive detergent. Can live quite well, for a full lifetime without gb. I always have the "rare side effects" of any medication prescribed for me-gotten to be predictable- what's wrong with me? Genes? Liver?
Nocebo effect.: Nothing. There is no plausible physiologic explanation for such a phenomena. Rare side effects are generally statistically independent events (unless of course, the side effects are from medications in the same class). Having a rare side effect from more than a few meds has vanishingly low probability. ...Read more
