Yes and no: Itching is not an uncommon problem with pregnancy and believed to be partly from the bile issue you mentioned related to hormonal changes. However there may some unknown mechanism involved as well. Antihistamine does not work well but worth a try. Be sure to apply moisturizer after bathing. Try OTC Gold Bond anti-itch or TriCalm. This does not impact the baby. Talk to OB also. ...Read more

See dermatologist: If the itching is so bothersome, you should consult a dermatologist since dry skin is apparently not the issue. The itch pathway is far more complex than we had thought and no longer just a matter of histaminic action. (I assume you have tried antihistamine already. If not, you may give it a try). ...Read more

I am so sorry to hear about your struggle with your skin. Since this has been going on for twenty years, if I recommend something that has been done or tried please forgive me. You need a complete allergy panel specifically for the area you live in. You should request skin and blood allergy testing. Have you tried Atarax (hydroxyzine) pills for itching? How about steroid injections every three months. Acupuncture? Acupressure? A daily anti-histamine won't hurt. Also consider cutting out gluten and monitor for any improvement.
I hope you find relief soon. ...Read more
