None of these...: Have anything to do with the liver; they tell us nothing about the state of the liver, good or bad. Also, if the rest of the CBC is normal, the only things these indices suggest is a very mild iron deficiency. ...Read more

Brusing and liver: You need to have some evaluation in pertain to your elevation of liver number. Go to see your md for work-up. Things like hepatitis panel, and sonogram of the liver and spleen - should be done. Easy bruising can be related and can be caused by liver problems. Avoid medicine that can make liver condition worse, avoid alcohol. If easy bruising is not associated to liver problem- see a hematologist. ...Read more

Alcohol: affects multiple organ systems, not just the liver. To your question, though, fibrinogen and other clotting factors are produced in the liver. Alcohol interferes with their production and activity in various ways, to the effect that alchol has both a procoagulant(which would increase clotting) and anticoagulant(the opposite) effects. They might be: Cirrhosis can result in enlargement of the spleen, which traps platelets, as well as damaging the ability of the liver to make clotting factors, and both of those can result in easy and pathological bruising. Not sure why you are on both Zoloft (sertraline) and Prozac, and wonder why you aren't on beta blockers to prevent variceal bleeding. Talk to your doctor about being on 2 SSRIs and about beta blockers. ...Read more
