I've been taking advicor for five years and now my doctor is switching me to zocor (simvastatin). How long does the niacin stay in your body.. Flushing?
Good question: I researched your question: the half life of extended release Niacin in Advicor (lovastatin and niacin) is very variable, & depends on gender, dose, & individual characteristics. It peaks 5 hours after a single dose. Following years of treatment, it's probably safe to assume that it will take days (3-5) to wear off completely. Possibly longer depending on dose. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it legal for the nurses to give unsolicited medical advice or speak on behalf of the m.D. And intentionally mislead the patient?
No: Nurses can relay the md's answers and obtain and gather info from the patient to relay back to md. They can give answers if it fits with established protocols (such as for upper resp infections or urinary tract infections). But seems unprofessional to offer unsolicited advice especially if not conveying the md's advice. ...Read more

It's not taboo here!: Depending on the culture, just about anything that's not a 'light, breezy, it's just fine' attitude can be 'taboo'. I think it's fear. A therapist: You may need a new pcm, some aren't familiar enough or comfortable treating eating disorders to help. A counselor will, especially if you choose one who has expertise in treating eating disorders. I don't think medications are the mainstay of treatment. Counseling is a critical component of treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
