Ulnar nerve.: Your ulnar nerve is likely superficial and gets easily irritated with pressure over the elbow or can become entrapped. Try not to lean on elbow. You should seek help soon from a hand surgeon. Steroid injections may help or you may need nerve transposed surgically to a different location. Medial Epicondylitis: Or "Golfer's Elbow" can be due to blunt trauma! This usually does not affect the ulnar nerve itself (its actually medial to the nerve) A CORTISONE INJECTION may be indicated! Ask your PCP (Primary Care Provider for a referral to an Orthopedist!

Need more info: From the symptoms you describe it sounds line what may be what is commonly called a "pinched nerve" with a radiculopathy (inflammation of a nerve root). Several causes could be age, injury etc. It's like hitting your "funny bone" in your elbow. Arthritis of thumb?: Can't be for sure what you have, but possibly some arthritis at the base of the thumb, especially if you use your hand/thumb a lot etc... If symptom has been ongoing and worsening for awhile, this is likely. If symptom comes on rather fast over couple of days, it could be gout--this can be very painful. Motrin/aleve may help.
