Can you tell me what could i eat on a strictly whole-food, high-fiber, low simple-carbohydrate, low-fat diet?
It depends: If you would like to do a low fat, low carb, high fiber diet, i'm assuming you'll be taking high protein as well. Then, make sure you take at least 60-70 grams or lean protein per day, less than 50 grams of carbs (fiber does not count), and keep the fat below 20 grams, all from fish or plant based. Three meals and two snacks daily. Another option if you don't want to do high protein is ornish diet. ...Read more
Are there some fruits that have a high enough fiber content, so that the fruit sugar carbs don't get quickly digested (trying to avoid a sugar high)?
Glycemic index: Berries, cherries, apples and pears are all "low glycemic index" forms of fruit. They are also nutrient dense and must still be balanced out with heart healthy protein foods such as nuts. Combining a starch with a higher protein food can slow the uptake of simple sugars and reduce the glycemic load. If you are a diabetic be very careful with portion size. Even low glycemic foods can inc glucose. ...Read more
Why is my bg always elevated in the am? I am diet and exercise controlled, A1c down from 7.6 to 6.3, weight down 30 lbs., low-carb, high fiber diet.
Question?: Do you eat late or snack before bed? Sometimes what people eat late can carry over to the next am and affect the bs. The other possibility is dawn phenomenon. Some people have higher morning blood sugars due to hormones which are highest in the am and they drive up the blood sugar also at that time. Talk to you doctor to see which is the problem and the appropriate treatment. ...Read more

I regularly eat a brand of low carb wrap with 26 grams of fiber. Is fiber in a processed product like this as beneficial as naturally occurring fiber?
Yes: Lots of fiber means fruits and vegetables. These are "good carbs" that are less caloric, less "glycemic" and less of a metabolic stress than sweets + starches. Atkins originally didnt allow much carb of any kind, but most doctors now recommend keeping the good carbs and focusing on limiting sugar, sugary drinks, sweets, commercial baked goods and starches. ...Read more

Several!: It is good self-nutritional support to know these points! first, carbs are all carbohydrates, including sugar and fiber. Usually, the non-sugar carbs, after subtracting fiber, are starch. Net carbs are total carbs, minus fiber, both soluble and insoluble. Some foods may contain sugar alcohols, which have little impact on Insulin secretion, and therefore, do not act like carbs. ...Read more
Did gtt at home. Exact amt oats+poptart 73g carb (6g fiber). Fbg 118. 1/2hr pp tests: 138 113 110 136 100. Why did bg peak x2? I dbl chkd each test.
Glucose intolerance: The glucose load went through GI so fast it wasn't absorbed. The elevated fbg tells you you should avoid sugar and refined grains and eat 6 equal meals with 6 servings of low glycemic vegetables and one apple spread out through three meals each day. Eat healthy, relax and breathe, then move like pretend jump roping for 5-10 minutes every 3 hours and your glucose tolerance and health will improve. ...Read more
To many variables!: It depends if you exercise a bit. You can be more liberal with carbs. Obviously if calories don't come from carbs, they come from protein and fat. Most people on a low carb diet consume 100-120g per day of proteinm 40-60g of carbs (after induction). Aside from fats in meat and dairy, go with nuts, monosaturated oils (olive, peanut, canola). Vegetables are low caloric density, so eat plenty! ...Read more
I increased the amount of fiber in my diet and decreased simple carbs and now have cramps and bloating. What should I do to alevitate?
Too much?: This is common. Sometimes adding too much fiber too soon can do this. Just back off on the fiber and increase slowly, so your body can adjust. It also depends on what kind of fiber you are taking in, for ex: beans, broccolli can cause more gas than other foods. Psyllium seeds are a good source of gentle fiber. ...Read more
