How does listerine work?

How does listerine work?

Antiseptic: Listerine works based on the 'essential oils' it contains. These essential oils act as an antiseptic to kill off the bacteria in the mouth that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Listening is a good product, but it should be used in addition to brushing, not instead of brushing. Also, smokers should use an alcohol-free listerine if that is the brand of mouthwash they choose. ...Read more

Is it okay to use listerine in children under age 12 years?

Is it okay to use listerine in children under age 12 years?

Hmmm: Not really. Most of the listerine I have seen has a lot of ethyl alcohol in it (21.6%). Ethyl alcohol is what is found in vodka, rum etc. Listerine does have an alcohol free product called listerine zero, but they still say do not swallow on their label.
If the child has bad breath try flossing and/or take them to dental hygienist for cleaning. Children's act mouth rinse with Fluoride is good. ...Read more

Can you tell me how many times should I use listerine a day?

Can you tell me how many times should I use listerine a day?

Mouth rinse use: How often you should use listerine/other mouth rinse depends on what you want to achieve by use. If it is simply to add more thoroughness to your home care, 1-3 times daily right after brushing is an expected maximum. If you use a mouth rinse that kills oral bacteria, this means that good ones are killed also. A healthy mouth needs a healthy colony of good bacteria. Be cautious on excessive use. ...Read more

Can listerine be really harmful and a life thread of you use it three times per day in a constant basis? Thanks

Can listerine be really harmful and a life thread of you use it three times per day in a constant basis? Thanks

Not really: Anything in excess can be bad for you, even water. But listerine is good for your oral hygiene. Theoretically, there are however normal good bacteria in your mouth and if that gets suppressed constantly by something like listerine, other bad bacteria may get the opportunity to flourish instead. But I think what you're doing is fine I wouldn't worry about it! ...Read more

It depends: The formula of listerine and alcohol free listerine are different. The regular listerine has the essential oils that have been proven to kill oral bacteria, and carries the ada seal. Some of the other versions are not the same and are not as effective.
