Taking potassium citrate 10meq couple years. Started lisinopril 20mg1/13. Just did a drug interaction check & rated severe. How concerned should I be?

Lisinopril: Lisinopril acts in the kidney to retain potassium which is the source of the interaction warning. Check with your doctor to see if that is what the doctor wants.

I have been on 20mg lisinopril for 11 years dr switched to losarten 50 mg should I be concerned about too much potassium?

No: The 2 drugs have similar potassium retaining properties. If your kidney function is normal or near normal, you should have no problem with either.

Is potassium sorbate safe with lisinopril?

It depends: If you do not hint potassium it might be ok but taking Lisinopril may cause high potassium and the idea of taking potassium may not be tight. At time when patients are on high dose diuretics they have tendency to loose potassium in that case potassium needs to supplemented.

My potassium level is 5.1. Could this be due to the 40mg of lisinopril I am taking? Also, should I cut out my daily v-8?

My potassium level is 5.1. Could this be due to the 40mg of lisinopril I am taking? Also, should I cut out my daily v-8?

Potassium: If your potassium is stable at 5.1 shouldn't be a problem, if its been rising then a decrease in potassium intake would be a good idea also consideration of kidney function and Lisinopril dose.

My potassium reading is 5.2 mmol/L during treatment with zestril (lisinopril) 10 mg daily?

A bit high: Zestril (lisinopril) is an ACEi and it may cause potassium to be a bit high. Your level is not that high, I would ask your doctor to repeat it in a week to see if it's still high. I would keep high-potassium food intake in moderation.

My dr wants to switch me from 20 mg of lisinopril to 50 of Losartan will the transition be easy & should I worry more about potassium on losartan?

It's OK to switch: Lisinopril and Losartan are both great medications with equal efficacy and you can easily switch from one to the other. They both may increase the potassium level equally but unless you have advanced kidney disease, neither should affect your potassium significantly.

What amount potassium can I have while on lisinopril/hctz?

What amount potassium can I have while on lisinopril/hctz?

Potassium and hctz (hydrochlorothiazide): Lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide (L) decreases levels of serum magnesium (M) by increasing the elimination of the drug through the kidney. This will lead to low levels of potassium (K), which will not be corrected until M is repleted. HCTZ is not as potent as a loop diuretic, furosemide, for wasting K. Speak to your physician (P) to see what your P says, as your P can answer you best of all.

Taking 10mg lisinopril/day. Will a supplement containing 300 mg potassium/day cause issues with elevated potassium?

POSSIBLY: Lisinopril is known to often raise your potassium level. Taking additional potassium, if your potassium is already high can lead to serious issues. Avoid supplement if your last potassium level was already high. Otherwise have your potassium levels checked out regularly.

Is 12.5 mg of hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) and 10mg lisinopril capable of giving you low potassium?

Is 12.5 mg of hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) and 10mg lisinopril capable of giving you low potassium?

Thiazide diuretics..: Such as hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) can increase the amount of potassium that your kidneys put out, thereby lowering your blood levels. Ask your provider to consider switching you to a potassium-sparing diuretic rather than just adding potassium supplements.

Would low potassium cause more than just a cramp/charlie horse in one leg? On nexoum for 8 days and on lisinopril 10mg n hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) 12.5. Should I worry?

Get potassium measur: Low potassium doesn't cause muscle cramps - it can cause tetany and, in extremely low levels, it can cause muscle weakness (called "periodic paralysis"). I suggest you have your potassium measured and then supplement it if it's low. Low potassium is a common cause of cardiac arrhythmias.

The internet says I can't eat potassium rich foods on lisinopril 5mg?! that's like all the healthy food? How am I supposed to eat healthy?

The internet says I can't eat potassium rich foods on lisinopril 5mg?! that's like all the healthy food? How am I supposed to eat healthy?

Talk to MD: Don't listen to everything you read on the internet! If your kidney function is normal, you can consume potassium risch foods safely. A normal kidney will excrete excess potassium you may consume. The fact is that most western diet are deficient in potassium, consuming sodium in great excess of sodium. Feel free to eat the natural, healthy and potassium rich foods freely. Www. Whatscookingwithdoc. Com.

Why should potassium be avoided when taking meds for high bp? Is it safe to eat 1 banana a day when taking 25mg atenolol and 20mg of lisinopril a day

Potassium: Avoiding potassium with all BP medicines is not an accurate statement. True, potassium should be avoided with some medications or if there is kidney insufficiency. In your case, however, eating a banana daily should be no problem.

On lisinopril/hctz 20/12.5mg for hypertension and spironolactone 50 mg foracnehow much potassium should I eat a day? And being on two diuretics safe?

Probably OK: Spironolactone can in rare cases cause high potassium, but in a young healthy person usually not an issue. To be safe, have your potassium levels checked (blood test) but you may generally eat whatever you want. The combination of diuretic is generally considered safe, but as I said, get your potassium level checked.
