Hardness improves: It's normal to feel the filler if pressing on the skin but it should not feel like a hard lump or appear on the surface. It works by plumping up the skin so you can "palpate" the filler. Usually feels like a firmness under the skin. Also the initial hardness that you feel is the initial swelling, bruising and inflammation caused by the injection which improves after a few weeks. ...Read more

What will happen to the fat fillers for under eye dark circles is a person looses a lot of weight say 90kg to 60kg , are there silicone based fillers?

What will happen to the fat fillers for under eye dark circles is a person looses a lot of weight say 90kg to 60kg , are there silicone based fillers?

Fillers more visible: After weight loss the fat fillers might be more visible under the eyes. At 19, it would be rare to use fat under the eyes. After 30 kg weight loss, there may be many changes in the face benefiting from tightening so that the infraorbital hollows are less troublesome. Silicine injections can harden over time and even extrude making scars years later. Avoid silicone injections especially by the eye. ...Read more

Fillers for scars: Fillers for scars are difficult - it can be done, but i don't think sculptra is a good choice. As some other doctors note, laser is the better option. Subcision can be used to loosen the scar floor and allow better laser results. ...Read more

How much should perlane (dermal fillers) injection cost? I'm seeing local clinics charging around $1000 for one syringe. Is this a normal price?

.

Depends: While there is always a range of prices for everything, in my practice a single 1cc syringe of Perlane (dermal fillers) costs $600. Most of the physicians in my area are within $50 to $100 of this price. Of course if more Perlane (dermal fillers) is being used the price will be higher. ...Read more

Is juvederm a natural alternative for reducing wrinkles? I'd like to have some age lines and wrinkles filled in, but i don't want to pump my body full of chemicals. A co-worker told me that juvederm isn't really a drug, that it's some sort of sugar-water.

Juvederm : Juvederm is a drug that can only be administered by a physician or a trained nurse injector in your plastic surgeon's office. Juvederm injectable gel is composed of a hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occuring sugar that is found in the body, but the hyaluronic acid in juvederm is cross-linked so it is more difficult for your body to break down, and hence it lasts for several months to a year. The product is used to fill in wrinkles in specific areas on your face. By adding volume, you get a smoother appearance. With any injectable product, there are risks including infection, pain, bruising, firmness, and lumps/bumps. www.dassmd.com. ...Read more

Ipl for rosacea: web reviews suggest some bad side effects. Skin losing plumpness, wrinkles, red and swollen for up to 6 weeks. What is the truth?

Ipl for rosacea: web reviews suggest some bad side effects. Skin losing plumpness, wrinkles, red and swollen for up to 6 weeks. What is the truth?

Not my experiencece: I've been treating patients with ipl for about 5 years and have not seen what you describe. As with all light-based therapies if one is too aggressive burns are a risk but this is uncommon. Generally after an ipl treatment the skin will appear slightly redder for the next 24 hours then the roseacea will gradually lighten over the next 4-6 weeks. It may take as much as 4-6 sessions to control. ...Read more

Is radiesse (dermal fillers) a good choice for lip augmentation? I've heard that it gets stiffer/doesn't stay as soft as some fillers. Would that make my lips look unnatural? .

Is radiesse (dermal fillers) a good choice for lip augmentation? I've heard that it gets stiffer/doesn't stay as soft as some fillers. Would that make my lips look unnatural?

.

Bioform : Bioform medical inc., the manufacturer of radiesse, strictly warns against the use of the product in the lips. Moreover, Radiesse does not have fda-approval for use in the lips. When injected into lips, Radiesse can trigger an inflammatory response, leading to the formation of palpable and sometimes visible nodules, lumps, and bumps, which could occasionally lead to permanent deformation of the lips. Juvederm, perlane, restylane, (dermal fillers) or fat grafting would be a much better for lips because these products are softer and more pliable. Radiesse; on the other hand, gives very satisfying results when injected into deeper fatty tissue layers, such as the cheeks, chin, and the nasolabial folds. ...Read more

Just watched dr lisa pavone on infomercial about biod vitamin spray. How ligitimate is this and what references can be used to verify this ad?

Hard to know because: I (& other docs here) can't answer this if we have not seen this informercial as i don't know what the ad says. What i can say is that any claims it makes re: the importance of vit d are likely true. Vit d works best when combined with vit a and k2 and I am impressed that this product has those. As for the claim it is 10 times better absorbed, it is possible but hard for me to evaluate.See comment:. ...Read more
