Liquid Laxative For Colonoscopy
Doing colonoscopy prep. On second laxative and all that comes out is a bit of yellowish solid that falls to the bottom of the toilet. Was liquid before. What is it?
Stool: It must have been some of your stool which finally migrated all the way down to your anus and out of your body. Your gastroenterologist appreciates that in that he will be able to have a clear view of your entire colon because you did such a good bowel prep and he will not have to clean you out from the rear end, so to speak. ...Read more

Been on one day of liquids for colonoscopy, starting second day. Haven't taken laxatives yet but noticed last formed stool was green. Why might this be? Should I inform doctor/emergency? Deeper green color.
Not concerning.: Stool color can vary because of a lot of factors, most notably diet. It is generally not a concern unless the store is bloody or solid black in color, due to bleeding, and will eventually return to normal. Green stool is not usually a concern. Be sure to drink all of your prep. Good luck. ...Read more
Unfortunately yes: Don't drink it too fast-there is no rush. Some people spread it over an hour. Try drinking through a straw so you can't smell it. See if your doctor will let you mix it with apple juice or sprite. Finally, put a wet wash cloth on your neck and sit in a recliner with your feet up. I found that the prep for the colonoscopy was way worse than the procedure itself. Bless your heart! ...Read more

Understanding only clear liquids can be had prior to a colonoscopy, does beer count? Specifically a bud light?
Beer is clear: Prior to colonoscopy it is best to keep the bowel relatively empty not to interfere with visualization of colon mucosa and any potential growths. Clear liquid for the most part is liquid without residue, that is virtually transparent to light. Obviously milk does not fit into profile, nor fruit juices for the most part. Beer is transparent and doesn't cause problems with residue. ...Read more

Revisit: You need to revisit the doctor who performed your procedures. By your description, I suspect that you are bleeding from your gastrointestinal tract, probably from your stomach where biopsies were taken. This explains the black diarrhea. Call your doctor or go to the nearest er immediately. ...Read more

Hope this helps. ...Dr Z ...Read more
I'm having a colonoscopy please tell me what is considered a clear liquid can I have apple sauce? And why can't I have red jello? I only like the red
Follow instructions: Generally speaking, the working definition of a liquid is clear is one in which you can pour in a glass and still be able to 'read the newspaper through it'. Apple sauce is not allowed. Red jello and liquids are not allowed because they can make any remaining fluid in the colon at the time of the colonoscopy look like blood. Follow your prep instructions so you can get the best exam possible. ...Read more

I've been doing a colonoscopy prep and am now only passing greenish liquid, however it feels like there might be something solid left. Is this common? Last three trips to toilet were all liquid.
Water and salts: Generally most colon preps are made of water and a mix of salts to both replace those expected to be washed out by the prep, but also to make it "neutral", so your body chemistry will not change much with the large volumes of fluid ingested. Substances to change the taste are also generally used too, although most peolpe still say it tastes terrible : (. ...Read more

Define clear liquids: "clear liquids" are any food that is not solid at room ; body temperature that will allow sunlight to pass through: ice pops, jello, broth without particles, juices without particulates, water, light tea. Avoid red-dyed foods that may leave residue that looks like blood to the colonoscopist. Confirm your selection with the performing doctor--you don't want to have to re-do the test due 2 bad prep. ...Read more

Colonoscopy: There are many options for bowel preparation to choose from. Some of these options are much smaller in volume and also there is pill form. You should discuss your concerns with your GI physician to determine the best options for you. There are other options beside colonoscopy, but none of the other ones will have therapeutic benefits (most of the other ones are diagnostic). Again, discuss! ...Read more
Can I still have colonoscopy if I've thrown up all the prep stuff and stool isn't liquid, just soft?
Unlikely: If you don't have clear stool then the camera on the colonoscopy can't pass through it. Try reading the instructions your doctor gave you. It might talk about what to do or a number to call if you can't tolerate your prep. Other people have this problem too. Sometimes you make another trip to pharmacy. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Can I have Werther's Original Caramel Hard Candies the day before my colonoscopy? I am on a clear liquid diet.
Yes: The hard candies will dissolve into soft or liquid form before they reach your bowel. While they are not quite clear, they are close enough. And the volume they would produce would be very small. I probably would not do more than 5 or 6 of them, though; maybe 10 at the most. None on day of procedure. Clearer/lighter hard candy would be better. Keep up the water!! Good luck! ...Read more
