Are glycerin suppositories safer than senna laxatives?

Are glycerin suppositories safer than senna laxatives?

Senna - Glycerin: Both glycerin and senna laxatives are rather safe, but they do work in different ways. Senna is considered a stimulant laxative and glycerin is a lubricant. Depending on the cause of the constipation, glycerin is the "gentler" option. However, I have seen situations where both senna and glycerin suppositories were used together. ...Read more

Beats me: and not sure why you would think a doctor would have the answer. The formulae to electronic cigarettes, like those of regular cigarettes, are considered "trade secrets" and are not published. You might write the company and see what they have to say, but I don't think they are going to give away secrets that allow people to not buy their products. How about just NOT smoking altogether? ...Read more

I used a liquid glycerin suppository last night with almost zero result (2 small, hard stool expulsions) Can I repeat and when should stool be normal?

Let's define problem: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full & bloated. Been x-rayed to check you're not blocked? We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for (sitz marker study & anal manometry, respectively). See a GI specialist. ...Read more

Glycerin: Should not be that irritating to your body since it is safe for kids. If your bowel movement was huge it could have caused a tear in the anus and that is why you are bleeding. If it continues, you should be seen by your doctor. Chances are it is a local problem after the bm. ...Read more

Is it safe to give my 20 day old newborn pedia lax liquid glycerin suppositories if she isn't making regular diapers?

Is it safe to give my 20 day old newborn pedia lax liquid glycerin suppositories if she isn't making regular diapers?

Not recommended: Not without a physical assessment by her pediatrician. At 20 days of age, we don't expect babies to make "regular" diapers. A baby may have a bowel movement with every feed or they may go up to 5 days without pooping. As long as she is feeding well, urinating normally and seems comfortable, I would leave well enough alone. Never give a baby under 2 months of age medicine without discussion w doc. ...Read more

My Daughter is experiencing constipation.
I've given her a liquid glycerin suppository, she is drinking apple juice, but nothing will come out ?

If poop is stuck...: Each child with constipation needs to be sure there is no actual disorder causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber plus water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... her doctor can evaluate and recommend helpful meds too. ...Read more

I gave my 9 month old a liquid glycerin suppository like his doctor told me to but he spotted a little blood while trying to poop. What could it be?

Anal fissure: The appearance of any bright red blood in poo is an indication of a scratch/fissure near the outlet. It is usually found laying on the outside of the poo. Dark red/purple would indicate it came from higher up. This finding is common in infants who have harder or bulkier poops. It self heals. ...Read more

Would some tissue and with liquid glycerine on it work as a laxative? it's 2am and I am desperate!

-local application?: For lubricant effect ,I think you are asking about using it. You are just 26 yrs old and not sure why at this you have constipation-so significant. Do you drink enough liquids , take enough roughage in the food . When you apply liquid glycerin into the anal canal the digital stimulation itself may help to bring out some stool out. But don't try this often as it causes local br.in lining and bleed ...Read more
