If poop is stuck...: Each child with constipation needs to be sure there is no actual disorder causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber plus water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... her doctor can evaluate and recommend helpful meds too. Can my 7 month baby have half the amount of liquid glycerin fleet suppository? He's been constipated on and off for about two weeks.

No: Fleets liquid is a little strong
I would get a glycerine suppository,
maybe half a pediatric glycerine suppository
like pediatric dulcolax suppository which is gentle and will lubricate the anus as the glycerine dissolves
make sure he is not reacting to the foods you may have added in his diet Read more

Is using Glycerin Suppositories chronically bad? I have chronic idiopathic constipation.

Is using Glycerin Suppositories chronically bad? I have chronic idiopathic constipation.

From Above: A better overall strategy is to help constipation " from above" so to speak. Increased fluids, vegetables, salad, perhaps a daily spoonful of metamucil are all helpful. Add in a daily dose of Miralax (polyethylene glycol) or mineral oil and you should be able to have soft daily stools. Using glycerin suppository is safe, however, if the above strategies aren't helping. Read more

Is glycerin suppository good for toddlers constipation? Does it hurt after inserting?

Yes, but be careful: Glycerin suppositories are effective for toddlers. However, administration of any rectal therapy in young children after infancy can be emotionally disturbing. Therefore I generally avoid such therapies for constipation with my young patients. Read more

Can you use a preperation h suppository before glycerin supppository? Constipation due to internal hemorrhoid. Partial blockage.

Can you use a preperation h suppository before glycerin supppository? Constipation due to internal hemorrhoid. Partial blockage.

Hemorrhoids: If the hemorrhoids are on the outside, you can use preparation H cream. If they are in the inside, you will need a suppository like preparation H or anusol. You should avoid constipation so that the hemorrhoids don't recur. Your doctor can do an anoscopy in the office to determine the size of hemorrhoids. If there is partial blockage sensation, you might want to consider a colonoscopy. Read more

Tried everything had Nothing works to treat my constipation but doc says use glycerin suppositories as needed. Is this safe? I use them weekly

Tried everything had Nothing works to treat my constipation but doc says use glycerin suppositories as needed. Is this safe? I use them weekly

Safe: Glycerin suppositories are safe, but you should not need to use them to treat your constipation on a regular basis. There are better options, but it is important that you discuss them with those who treat your Gilbert's disease and hypothyroidism. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of a healthy, high fiber diet and adequate hydration. Also, when was the least time your thyroid was checked? Read more

I am a dancer and my company has put me on a strict diet of just fruit and water. I us 2 glycerin suppository. What else can I us for constipation?

Unhealthy: A diet of only fruit and water is not likely to meet your nutritional needs and is protein deficient. Your infrequent stools are probably due to lack of bulk in your diet, since fruit and water only should have a natural stool softening effect. Read more

My 3 year kid having constipation since 7 months. Glycerin suppository has placebo effect for him and he poops with in 5 min. Should use it often?

Give fruits/ vegetab: Excessive suppository is not good. It may make him dependent for life. Give him sliced oranges or watermelon everyday with breakfast and lunch. Give cooked vegetables with dinner, everyday. When he gets enough fiber in his diet, his stooling will improve. If not, please see your Pediatrician who will examine him to confirm that he does not have any abnormality and may then prescribe an oral laxat Read more

My 3 year kid having constipation since 7 months. Glycerin suppository has placebo effect for him and he poops with in 5 min. Should use it often?

Use only as needed: Avoid using the suppository frequently. It is important to have increased veggies and fruit in your child's diet, keeping well hydrated as well as having a routine for bathroom use. Having a calendar and rewards/praise can help in achieving bathroom success. Some children are afraid of having bowel movements because of discomfort with stooling. See your doctor for a treatment plan. Read more

Constipation being sick I have been on laxidoes, senekot and glycerin suppositorystill no movement been months since last emptied bowels please help?

Constipation being sick I have been on laxidoes, senekot and glycerin suppositorystill no movement been months since last emptied bowels please help?

By emptying: You must mean having a sense of COMPLETELY emptying your bowels. You couldn't go for months with no bowel movement at all. It seems to me that repeated enemas are the way to go now. You could have at least a partial impaction and this would be the best way to deal with it. You should ask for some medical assistance so that you can be checked and monitored during this procedure. Work with your Doc. Read more

Would you consider glycerin suppositories safer for me then prune juice for constipation since prune juice causes excessive Diarreah?

Constipation care: The best way to manage constipation is with a daily regimen that keeps you regular. For many reasons it is not good to wait until you are very constipated, then take something to treat it. The best medication to use, which is safe to use every day, is glycolax. Use glycolax daily, consume plenty of fiber and drink lots of water. Avoid suppositoty use unless you are severely constipated. Read more
